TACOMA, Wash. -- Investigators are trying to determine what started a fire that damaged the Teamsters hall here early Tuesday morning.

A police officer was driving by the hall just after 2 a.m. and saw smoke and flames coming from the back of the building.

Firefighters arrived at the hall at 220 South 27th and quickly had the fire under control, but flames had already gutted an auditorium on the lower floor.

Other rooms suffered heavy smoke and water damage, officials said.

Fire department Battalion Chief Kevin Donohoe said the auditorium will likely have to be re-built.

No one was in the building and there were no reports of injuries.
