Firefighters tackle the blaze Saturday morning at Illahee Mobile Home Park.

BREMERTON, Wash. - One person was killed in an early morning fire that sent smoke and flames billowing high into the sky Saturday at the Illahee Mobile Home Park near Bremerton.

Firefighters responding to a 911 call at about 6:10 a.m. found a single-wide mobile home completely engulfed in flames, said Theresa MacLennan of Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue.

The closest fire hydrant required firefighters to lay more than 800 feet of hose down a steep drive to reach the home, MacLennan said.

Crews used more than 15,000 gallons of water and suppressant foam as they worked to contain the fire, evacuate the closest neighbor and protect nearby mobile homes in the densely packed community.

Neighbors reported one person lived in the home.

Investigators found a body in the bedroom, and also determined that the fired started in the bedroom.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Kitsap County Fire Marshal's Office with assistance from the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office.

Firefighters responded to the scene from Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue and Bremerton Fire Department.
