Man shot to death by officer responding to disturbance
LAKE STEVENS, Wash. -- A police officer responding to a domestic violence call shot and killed a man Sunday night.
The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team is investigating the shooting at a residence in the 10400 block of 25th Street Southeast.
Spokesman Robert Goetz of the Everett Police Department said the original call to 911 indicated a man known to the caller was trying to force his way through the front door.
Two Lake Stevens' officers arrived and when they went into the home, a fight ensued with the intruder, Goetz said.
Detectives are still sorting out what happened next, but a 23-year-old Lake Stevens officer opened fire and killed the intruder.
Goetz said detectives have recovered two handguns at the scene -- one was located near the body of the intruder and the second was on his person.
The 23-year-old Lake Stevens officer is a three-year veteran of the department.
The name of the man who was killed has not been released, and it was not immediately clear what prompted the officer to fire.
