SEATTLE (AP) - The U.S. Department of Energy has selected two hydropower projects in Washington state to receive nearly $5.5 million in Recovery Act money.

The department said Wednesday that up to $4.7 million will go to Tacoma's public utilities department to add two turbines to Cushman Dam. Up to $800,000 will go to Energy Northwest for a new turbine at its Packwood Lake facility.

The projects are among seven nationally that the DOE has chosen to receive a total of $30.6 million to modernize hydropower plants.
