EVERETT, Wash. -- A 5-month-old boy died Tuesday from complications related to the flu, Snohomish County health officials said.

The boy, from Marysville, had underlying health conditions. The cause of death is unconfirmed, pending laboratory test report, but the flu was a contributing factor, officials said.

“We all grieve when the community loses a child,” said Dr. Gary Goldbaum, Health Officer and Director of Snohomish Health District. “This little one had serious underlying health conditions, but that does not make the loss any easier for the child’s loved ones.”

The boy's name has not been released.

Health officials remind everyone with infants that since they are too young to be vaccinated if they are younger than 6 months old, that everyone in the household should receive the vaccine to protect the child from catching it. Any family members who care for infants younger than 6 months old are on the priority list to receive the H1N1 vaccine.
