SEATTLE - A motorist who started driving the wrong way up Interstate 5 after slamming into a jersey barrier early Saturday collided with another vehicle, injuring herself and the other driver.
Alcohol, drugs or both are believed to be a factor in the crash.
State troopers were called to the scene, near the intersection of I-5 and I-90, at about 2:15 a.m.
An investigation found that the first driver, a 26-year-old Milton woman, was heading south on I-5 in a 2000 Ford Explorer when she crashed into the jersey barrier on the left shoulder of the freeway.
Her vehicle spun completely around, and she started driving north in the southbound lanes.
A 44-year-old Seattle woman was driving south in a 1997 Ford Explorer when she veered to avoid the first driver heading straight at her in the wrong direction.
Her vehicle slammed into the jersey barrier and the first vehicle.
Both women were rushed to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
The first driver now faces possible charges of DUI and vehicle assault, the Washington State Patrol said.
Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
