1 killed, 5 injured in crash near Poulsbo
POULSBO, Wash. - A 25-year-old Marysville man was killed and five passengers in his car were injured when he pulled out into the path of an oncoming pickup truck late Friday about three miles north of Poulsbo.
One of the injured passengers was a 1-year-old baby boy, who suffered a head injury in the crash.
State Patrol troopers were called to the scene, in the 26400 block of Highway 3, at about 11:40 p.m.
Investigators said Diandre D. Edgecomb, 25, of Marysville was at the wheel of a 1993 Dodge four-door when he attempted to pull out of a store parking lot onto the southbound lane of Highway 3.
The car, with Edgecomb and his five passengers inside, headed directly into the path of a northbound 2002 Toyota pickup driven by a 46-year-old Bainbridge Island man. The pickup driver was unable to avoid hitting the car.
Edgecomb was declared dead at the scene of the crash.
Two female passengers in their 20s were seriously hurt in the crash, as was the 1-year-old boy. All three were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Two other passengers in the Dodge - a 23-year-old woman with a broken pelvis and ribs and a 29-year-old man - were transported to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton.
All five passengers in the Dodge were from Marysville.
The driver of the pickup was unhurt, and there were no passengers in his vehicle.
Troopers said the crash was caused by Edgecomb's failure to yield to the oncoming pickup.
Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
