RENTON, Wash. - The Miss Seattle Scholarship Program crowned a new Miss Seattle, 21-year-old McKinley Smith. McKinley graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor of arts in anthropology.

McKinley's platform, "EveryBODY is Beautiful," deals with eating disorders.

"For many years, negative body image defined my life," she writes.

McKinley struggled with anorexia throughout high school and then bulimia in college. Her goal is to develop community awareness of eating disorders and educate the media about the problem.

McKinley will compete in the Miss Washington pageant to be held in late July.

Thirteen talented women competed at the IKEA Performing Arts Theatre at Renton High School last night, hoping to take home some of the thousands of dollars in scholarship money that was awarded.

Last year's Miss Seattle, Devanni Partridge, is the current Miss Washington. She will compete in the Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas in late January.
