Man running from police fatally struck on I-5
TACOMA, Wash. -- A man who ran from police after a traffic stop was struck and killed on Interstate 5 early Thursday.

Trooper Brandy Kessler said the incident began when a Fife police officer stopped a man suspected of driving drunk at about 1 a.m.

While officers were arresting the driver, they learned that the passenger had outstanding arrest warrants.

When police opened the passenger door, the 45-year-old Tacoma man jumped out and ran across I-5 where he was hit by two cars.

The man died at the scene. His name has not been released.

Troopers said the driver of the first car that hit the man did not stop. It was described as a dark green sedan with possible front end damage.
