Victim clams up after Pioneer Square shooting
SEATTLE - Gunfire echoed through the streets of Pioneer Square early Sunday as bars closed, but a man who was shot told officers his injury had nothing to do with the shooting.
One suspect was caught and arrested after fleeing the scene, police said.
The Seattle Police Department said the incident began at about 2 a.m., when officers patrolling the area heard about 10 to 15 gunshots fired.
Once the shooting stopped, officers swept a parking lot for victims and suspects, but neither was found. One vehicle had a broken rear window from a gunshot, and two bullet casings were recovered.
Shortly after the shooting, a King County sheriff's deputy stopped a vehicle fleeing the scene and found a gun inside the vehicle.
One passenger was arrested after others identified him as the shooter. He was booked into King County Jail for violation of uniform firearms act as a convicted felon.
At about 3:45 a.m., Valley Medical Center in Auburn notified Seattle police that a man had come in claiming he had been shot outside a bar in Seattle.
Officers responded to the hospital to talk to the man, but he became uncooperative and changed his story, claiming his wound had nothing to do with the incident.
