MAX operator suspended after boy, father separated

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A TriMet MAX train operator was suspended Monday after a 3-year-old boy was separated from his father and left on a MAX platform a week ago.

TriMet officials said they found no problems with the intercom system and determined it was the actions of the driver that contributed to the family being separated.

On Nov. 16, Aiden Bailey got off a MAX train and before his father, Aaron Bailey, could get off the train, the doors closed and left the boy separated and stranded on the platform at the SE Main Street Station.

Orianne Greene, who was also on the platform and tried to get the door of the train back open before it departed, stayed with the boy until his father came back eight minutes later on a returning train.

Aaron Bailey said he repeatedly pressed the intercom button inside the train to contact the operator but he got no response.

TriMet said the operator did not respond to the four calls that were made by the father.

The employee was placed on paid administrative leave until a disciplinary meeting Wednesday morning.
