SEATTLE -- Police here are investigating a shooting that left one man injured in South Seattle late Friday afternoon.

Det. Jeff Kappel said an off-duty officer heard shots being fired in the 9000 block of Rainier Avenue South at 5:21 p.m.

Officers arrived at the location to find a man with a gun shot wound to the leg. The unidentified victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center.

Investigators, with the aid of a canine unit, have launched a search for the gunman, who remains at large. A description was not available.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear, and the investigation is ongoing.
