Pedestrian hit, killed by wrong-way driver
SEATTLE - A pedestrian was struck and killed early Sunday in Belltown by a motorist who then drove off, going the wrong way down a one-way street. The motorist was later stopped and arrested.
Police said the accident happened at about 2:25 a.m. Sunday as the pedestrian was crossing the street at the intersection of Bell Street and Western Avenue.
At about the same, the motorist was heading west on Bell Street in a white 2006 Honda. The Honda stopped at the stop sign at Western, then took off and struck the pedestrian.
The Honda then turned left at Western after hitting the pedestrian, going the wrong way down the one-way street.
The pedestrian was taken by Seattle Fire Department medics to Harborview Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Honda was pulled over and showed signs of intoxication and impairment. The driver was later arrested and booked into the King County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide.
An investigation is continuing.
