79-year-old woman in wheelchair hit by car in Edmonds

EDMONDS, Wash. -- A 79-year-old Edmonds woman was hit by a car Tuesday while crossing a street in her motorized wheelchair.

The woman, who has not been identified, was was crossing State Route 99 at 76th Avenue West at roughly 1:20 p.m. when she was hit, according to Edmonds police.

The driver, a 20-year-old Lynnwood resident, immediately stopped and waited with the woman until police and an ambulance arrived on scene.

Police say the Edmonds woman was alert and conscious after the crash. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center to be treated for her injuries. Her current condition is not known.

The intersection was blocked to traffic for several hours as the Edmonds Police Traffic Unit investigated. It's unclear if the driver was ticketed.
