PORT ANGELES, Wash. — Two Chinese citizens died in a two-car collision late Friday on Highway 101 near Port Angeles that closed the highway for hours.

State Patrol troopers were called to the scene, about two miles east of Port Angeles at Morse Creek, shortly after 10 p.m.

An investigation found that a 1998 Ford Escort being driven by Chi-Kan Cheung, 21, was heading west on the four-lane highway when it drifted across the centerline into the eastbound lanes.

The car spun sideways to the right as it continued sliding in the eastbound lanes and was T-boned on the driver's side by a 2000 Ford Focus heading east.

Cheung was killed in the crash, along with a female passenger, Duo Li, 21. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A second passenger in the Escort, a 20-year-old man, suffered rib and chest injuries, and was taken to Olympic Medical Center.

The driver of the Focus, a 44-year-old Sequim man, and his 43-year-old wife were taken to the hospital with possible chest injuries and soreness.

The Washington State Patrol said the driver of the Escort was going too fast for highway conditions.

All three occupants of the Escort were Chinese citizens. The Chinese consulate was notified of the deaths.
