Hundreds come through for fallen officers' kids
LAKEWOOD, Wash. - Hundreds of people turned out Sunday night for an auction to benefit the families of four slain Lakewood police officers.
All were united in grief - mourning the officers shot to death Nov. 29 as they prepared for their work shift. And all were hoping to turn their sadness into hope and healing.
Donations collected at the auction will go to help the children of the four fallen officers.
It was a friend of one of the officers' wives who decided to coordinate the Sunday night benefit.
What started out as an idea for a small spaghetti dinner and auction quickly ballooned into a large event at the student center of Clover Park Technical College.
Hundreds of people came, including police in uniform and total strangers. All wanted to help the families of the "Lakewood Four."
"It's great to see people come together, and it's sad that it takes something like that to happen, but at least it's happening, and I think that - just seeing the people that have come out and the donations we've gotten have been phenomenal. Everybody wants to help," says organizer Kerra Tibeau.
Up for grabs at the auction were everything from a suite at an upcoming Seahawks game to hotel stays - and even a cruise.
All the money raised will benefit the children of the officers. There are nine in total.
