EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Police say a man who appeared on Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch" has been arrested in Illinois on suspicion of robbing three banks in Eugene, Ore.
Police in East Peoria, Ill., say they arrested 23-year-old Joshua Tel Warner on Thursday on the Oregon bank robbery warrant after a vehicle he was riding in was pulled over for a routine traffic stop.
He is being held on $30,000 bail in the Tazewell County Jail.
Eugene police say he is the same Josh Warner who appeared as a greenhorn deckhand on the Alaskan king crab fishing boat Wizard in the Discovery Channel show "Deadliest Catch." His actions and confrontations with deckhands and the captain made him well known to the show's followers.
Warner is wanted for the the Oct. 19, 2007 robbery of Washington Mutual Bank at 2840 Willamette Street, the April 3, 2009, robbery of Pacific Continental bank at 1450 High Street; and the Aug. 28, 2009, robbery of the same Pacific Continental Bank, police said Thursday.
Warner was accompanied by a second man during the most recent robbery. Police have identified the second suspect but an arrest warrant is being sought prior to publicly naming him.
Prior to fishing in Alaska, Warner was a Dungeness crab fisherman on the Oregon coast and a wildland firefighter.
