KENT, Wash. - A car full of teenagers slammed into a tree early Sunday in Kent, killing the 18-year-old driver and injuring the three teenage passengers.

High speeds and possibly alcohol were believed to be factors in the crash, said Lt. Lisa Price of the Kent Police Department.

Police and medics responded to the scene, in the 23800 block of 64th Avenue S., at about 4 a.m.

The 18-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The three passengers, all teenage girls, were rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators said that the four teens in the car had met earlier with a second group of friends in SeaTac. Both carloads of teenagers were on their way to a residence in Kent when the first car crashed.

The teens in the second vehicle witnessed the crash, but were not involved in it.

A preliminary investigation indicates that high speeds, driver inexperience and possible alcohol usage were contributing factors in the cause of the crash.
