Amtrak restores service between Seattle, Chicago
SEATTLE - Amtrak is restoring full passenger rail service on the Empire Builder route from Seattle to Chicago, which was disrupted last week by severe winter weather.
Effective Monday, the train will operate for the full route eastbound from Portland and Seattle, and westbound from Chicago.
Service had been suspended between St. Paul and Seattle, in both directions, due to heavy, drifting snow and winds across the Plains.
Full service also was restored Sunday on the California Zephyr route, from Emeryville, Calif., to Chicago. The eastbound train, from Chicago to California, will resume service on Monday.
Service previously had been suspended between Chicago and Denver, in both directions.
Passengers are encouraged to call 800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak.com for schedule information and train status updates.
