Marijuana grow found at scene of double murder
EVERETT, Wash. -- Police say they found at least 400 marijuana plants inside a home where a young man and woman were shot to death late Monday night.
Sgt. Robert Goetz said officers responded with medics about 11 p.m. to a 911 call near the intersection of 164th Street and Ash Way and found a woman who had been shot.
She as taken to the Colby Campus of Providence Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
The woman was in a car with friends who were trying to drive her to a hospital but got lost and called 911.
Goetz said the woman's friends told officers that she had been shot at a home in the 600 block of Dexter Avenue. Officers went to the house the front door was open and they found a man shot to death inside.
Both victims were in their 20s and were living at the home where the man's body was found, Goetz said.
Investigators were releasing few details about the shooting on Tuesday, but Goetz said the shooting did not appear to be a murder-suicide.
"We don't have any indication that this is random. At the same time we don't have any specific suspect information," said Goetz.
Detectives are still trying to determine whether the killings were connected to the drugs, but officials had no information on a motive or suspect.
Goetz described the marijuana grow as an elaborate and sophisticated operation that included grow lights and a complex watering system.
Neighbors said they heard several loud bangs Monday night, but they just assumed the noises were from fireworks.
The names of the man and woman who were killed have not been released.
