Man shot dead during rap contest

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - Police say a man was shot to death in Yakima in a dispute over an informal rap music contest.

Police told The Yakima Herald-Republic that 27-year-old James Kilby wasn't involved in the Saturday night contest at a house but had gone there to pick up his roommate after the dispute developed.

Kilby was shot in his car in a parking lot. His roommate was beaten but escaped into a grocery store.

Two suspects - 21 and 23 years old - were arrested Monday in Seattle for investigation of murder and attempted murder.

Kilby had lived in Bremerton but police say he had a Union Gap address.
