SEATTLE -- A 21-year-old Seattle man has been arrested for allegedly pointing a loaded gun at another driver on I-90 in Seattle during Friday morning’s commute.

The victim called 911 just after 9 a.m. saying the driver of a Volvo had pointed a gun at him as they were going east on I-90 just west of the Mount Baker Tunnel, said Trooper Dan McDonald.

The victim told dispatchers the Volvo was tailgating him and he could see the driver pull a black semi-automatic pistol out of a holster and point it towards the rear of his vehicle.

McDonald says the victim ducked in his driver seat and quickly changed lanes from the left lane to the right lane in an attempt to avoid potential gunfire.

The two cars were split up when they entered the lane division inside the tunnel -- the victim off to the right bore while the suspect was in the left bore.

The victim lost sight of the Volvo after the lanes merged on the east side of the tunnel, but troopers found the Volvo as it was exiting to NE 148th Street in Bellevue.

McDonald says the driver tried to escape troopers, but was quickly found in St. Andrew's Church's parking lot.

Troopers arrested the driver, who they identified as Andrew Abson, without incident. Upon searching the Volvo, troopers found a loaded black semi-automatic pistol, holster, and 6 extra rounds of .380 caliber bullets were recovered from the vehicle. The extra bullets were found stored in an ammunition box in the shape of a cross, McDonald said.

Investigators say it appears the victim might have accidentally cut off Abson as he was merging from I-5 onto I-90.

McDonald said Abson was booked into King County Jail for unlawful display of a weapon and has recently been cited for multiple traffic violations including negligent driving, speed, and improper use of emergency equipment.
