CHEHALIS, Wash. – A 20-year-old Centralia man abandoned his car in the middle of Interstate 5 and fled after slamming into a pickup and causing it to roll over late Saturday, the Washington State Patrol reports.

The driver, Carmen Victor Rodas-Urias, was later found and taken into custody. WSP is recommending several charges against him, including felony hit-and-run, vehicular assault and DUI.

State troopers were called to the scene at about 11:50 p.m. Saturday.

An investigation determined that Rodas-Urias was heading south on I-5 at high speed in a 1991 Nissan when he lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the rear of a 2004 Chevy pickup, the WSP said in its report.

The impact caused the pickup to roll over several times, injuring the driver, a 52-year-old man from Newburg, Ore.

Rodas-Urias then abandoned his Nissan in the middle of the freeway and took off running.

A third vehicle, a 1997 Dodge, then crashed into the Nissan that had been left abandoned in the freeway.

The driver of Chevy pickup was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with lacerations to his face and scalp. The driver of the third vehicle was treated at the scene for minor cuts and released.

Authorities later tracked down Rodas-Urias near his residence in Centralia and took him into custody. He was uninjured.
