New 'gentlemen's club' to open near Safeco Field
SEATTLE - The city is getting a new gentlemen's club, and it's raising eyebrows.
What could be so controversial, you may ask?
This is not a place for men to smoke cigars and lounge around, reading newspapers or chatting in big, overstuffed chairs.
And it's not a club where gents gather to talk about fox hunts.
Actually, it's a euphemism for a strip club.
And at Seattle's brand new gentlemen's club, near Safeco Field, there are no cigars, and the men aren't looking for foxes of the four-legged type.
But the managers insist this place is good.
"This isn't some back alley club; this is an upscale establishment that caters to all kinds of people," says Matt Teasley, the club supervisor.
He says the club is posh, with no expense spared on the main floor, in the private booths and in the mezzanine.
There's no booze. And no one under 18 is allowed on the premises.
It won't be cheap, either.
The cover charge is $10. There's also a one-time $10 fee for soft drinks, and each dance is $20.
KOMO News got a brief look at a covered-up dance today. This was for TV; not for gentlemen.
This place is just an outfielder's throw from Safeco Field.
The Mariners didn't want the club here, but the club's attorney says the Mariners should realize this place can help them.
"For sobering up any fans who might have had too much to drink, and shouldn't be immediately driving, it should be a win win situation," says attorney Pete Buck.
The club will play ball with the Mariners on kids' days and afternoon games, too. On those days, there will be no pictures on the marquee.
