Girl on tricycle fatally hit by car
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. -- A 3-year-old girl was fatally struck by a car on Monday afternoon.

The accident happened in the driveway of a home in the 9100 block of Madrona Circle at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said the girl was playing with a group of children in the driveway when her mother's fiance asked them to move. Most of the children moved out of the way so the man could head to work, but the 3-year-old girl, who was riding a tricycle, was hit, Troyer said.

"Unfortunately, nobody saw the little girl right in front of the wheel and when he pulled forward, he drove over the top of her," said Troyer.

Pictures taken by Air4 showed a child's tricycle pinned under the front left wheel of a vehicle.

The girl was taken to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

It is not known whether the driver will face any charges.

"With a larger, four-wheel-drive, SUV-type vehicle, from the driver's seat, there's no way you're going to see down below when the kid is right up against the wheel," said Troyer.
