EVERETT, Wash. -- State troopers arrested a man who they say led them on a chase down I-5 before crashing in a residential area south of Everett on Thursday.
State Patrol Sgt. Chris Schweigert said the driver of the Acura Integra sped past an unmarked patrol car on southbound I-5 at about 80 miles per hour just after 11 a.m.
The trooper tried to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to pull over and accelerated down I-5 before exiting at 128th Street Southwest.
Schweigert said the driver tossed drugs and a stolen handgun out a window and then lost control of the car, flipping the vehicle into a ditch.
Sharon Bouscher said she was in her house when she heard a huge 'thump' outside.
"I looked out the window and saw the officer running with his gun drawn and chasing the guy down the street," she said.
Sheldon Givinter lives about 20 feet from where the car crashed and said he was shocked when he saw the wreck.
He said the trooper quickly chased the down the driver.
A female passenger who was in the acura crawled out of the wreck and ran off. She remains at large.
The 31-year-old Seattle man who was driving the car had several outstanding arrest warrants and will be booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of multiple crimes, Schweigert said.
No one was seriously injured in the crash and Schweigert said the gun tossed out of the car had been stolen in King County.
