Prosecutors: Mother made naked tape with teen daughter

SEATTLE -- A South Seattle mother is accused of sexually exploiting her own 14-year-old daughter in an explicit home video.

Prosecutors have charged Lashawnda S. Potts, 29, of sexual exploitation of a minor, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Investigators said Potts, in violation of a no-contact court order, visited her then-13-year-old daughter at the the home of the girl's grandmother and guardian on Dec. 27, 2009.

During the visit, Potts "knowingly allowed the live videotaping of her and (her daughter), both of whom were naked," according to the statement of probable cause.

Investigators said the taped footage, which is 3 minutes and 39 seconds long, shows the girl and the woman in what appears to be a residential bathroom.

Even though there is loud music playing in the background, Potts appears to be "offering some direction to (her daughter) as to what she should do while standing in the bathtub/shower," the document said.

The video primarily focuses on the teenage girl "and her entirely exposed, nude body," according to detectives. The girl is seen "dancing during most of the video and performing what can best be described as cheerleading moves, (claps and movements with the hands and legs)," investigators wrote.

According to the statement, the girl is "seen shaking her exposed buttocks at the camera" and "as she dances around the tub, her breasts are seen bouncing up and down."

Prosecutors have requested $25,000 bail for Potts, who, in addition to the charge, is also accused of "providing alcohol to her 13-year-old victim daughter," and "having the victim drive the defendant around to purchase drugs."

Prosecutors said Potts has a lengthy criminal record, which includes two second-degree theft convictions, 10 third-degree theft convictions, and three fourth-degree assault convictions. She has also been found guilty of unlawful issuance of bank checks, refusal to cooperate, first-degree criminal trespass and obstruction.

Potts is not in police custody, but a warrant for her arrest has been issued.
