FORT LEWIS, Wash. -- The Army on Wednesday bid farewell to two young soldiers at Fort Lewis. Both were members of the 4th Stryker Brigade and were killed more than a week ago in Iraq.

"We are here today to honor our fallen soldiers Cpl. Shawn Hensel and Cpl. Willard Powell," the chaplain told those gathered for the service.

Powell's parents, Sunny and Mark from Indiana, were present. And so were his fellow soldiers.

"As we sit here today, let's remember Cpl. Willard Powell who paid the ultimate sacrifice for what he believed in a man no matter could always be counted on as a friend and a soldier," said Spec. Shawn Morgan. "Most of all I will always remember him as one of my heroes."

Powell died August 16th of wounds from small arms fire while on patrol north of Baghdad.

"So today I stand in awe of you Cpl. Powell. I'll never be able to thank you personally for what you have done for all of us here, but that gratitude is an eternal one," said Capt. Erik Summers.

Hensel was killed two days earlier.

"Here in this chapel we gather to honor a true hero, Cpl. Shawn Hensel," Capt. Andrew Marsh said.

His parents were told he was caught in a crossfire in Baghdad.

"The memories I'll take away from Shawn is a quiet young soldier with a ready smile who let his actions back the way he lived his life with honor," said Staff Sgt. Jonathan Taylor.

The unit had a tough time as they heard how these soldiers died and just how young they were - just 20 and 21 years old.

"Shawn and Will, we all know what you did for a living and we're proud and honored to have stood next to you in our ranks," said Maj. Chad Sundem.

They're two members of the 4th Stryker Brigade that will never be forgotten.

The Special Forces held a private memorial for two of their own at Fort Lewis today. Tribute was paid to SFC Adrian Elizalde and SFC Michael Tully.
