Silverdale man found guilty in officer shooting
PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) - A jury has found Scott Lincoln Davis guilty of first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault for shooting Clallam County Sheriff's Deputy Bill Cortani in a January shootout.
Davis will be sentenced on Sept. 2 in Clallam County Superior Court. The verdict was announced as the courthouse was closing at about 4:30 p.m.
Defense attorney Harry Gasnick had argued the 60-year-old retired Army major was legally insane when he shot Cortani in the left arm and hip.
The officer from Forks was wounded after responding to a report of an intruder in a vacant cabin near Neah Bay.
