Parents to boy's attacker: 'You are a sick evil twisted human being'
PORTLAND, Ore. -- The man who stabbed and sexually assaulted a young boy in an attack at a Wendy's restaurant in Portland has pleaded guilty to all counts and received a 33-year prison sentence in a deal with prosecutors.
Adam Lee Brown, 49, of Portland, was charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and assault following the bloody July 1 attack.
Brown grabbed the 10-year-old boy inside the restaurant, and pulled him into a bathroom.
The boy's father tried to open the door but had to get the manager to unlock it. At that point, Brown opened the door, shoved the injured boy outside and then locked himself inside the restroom. Several people who were in the restaurant held the door shut until police arrived.
Brown barricaded himself in the bathroom for several hours before eventually surrenduring to police.
In court on Wednesday, the boy's parents had the prosecutor read a statement to Brown, saying "you are a sick evil twisted human being. The horror our son feels will always be in the depths of his mind, but broken is something he'll never be."
Brown was declared a "predatory" sex offender after he was convicted for sodomy in December of 1993.
According to news reports from KATU and others in 1993, Brown had unprotected sex with children and tried to infect them with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
Prosecutors said he victimized nine kids, five of whom were exposed to HIV. He targeted both male and female children between two and eight years old.
Brown sexually assaulted children who were in the care of acquaintances, and gave them drugs and alcohol, according to the sex offender registry.
He was not allowed to have contact with minors after his release or frequent places where minors regularly congregate.
He was paroled in 2004, but his original sentence was 16 years, which means he would have gotten out of jail in 2009 whether his parole was denied or allowed.
At the time of the latest attack, Brown also had an outstanding warrant for a parole violation.

It's too bad no body in Washington or Oregon States ever really pay any attention to their governments anymore. Things like this crime against a child could be prevented if only we the People would know what they are doing in our states governments. & any one who is "outraged" at this crime, if all that you know about all of the governments in your state is summed up in less than two hundred words, you have no room to say anything.

Not that I'm advocating a piece of scum like him, or the fact that he was paroled early, but what I got from the story is his sentence of 16 years would have had him out in 2009 (this is from the case in 1993 -- 1993 + 16 = 2009). He was paroled in 2004, which means he served 11 years, which of course is too few... or maybe too many as he should have met a faster demise.Â
This whole story is so wrong, after all the evil things this man did, he was only to serve 16 years? and then gets paroled? Did any of the powers that be who were responsible for this travesty learn anything from it?
And this piece of filth is still breathing WHY? I applaud this boy and his family's strength, but at the same time, had this freak done something to one of MY kids, there wouldn't even have been a trial. For someone like this no amount of prison time is going to change who they are. This man is dangerous to children and should not be out in the general population now or in the future. Just because the law says he is

If he was trying to infect the kids with HIV, he should have been brought up on attempted murder charges. 33 years is not nearly enough for this pos, I think an attack like this should be a capital offense. I hope the boy he attacked, as well as the children he attacked in the past are able to recover from the trauma of what he has done to them, and that none of them ever test positive for HIV.
I think he should be jailed with the general population and let them sort it out. He won't live too long.Â

I hope this kid did not get HIV. The system caused this problem as this vermin should have never been free. If he already infected a kid with HIV, what possible justification could there be to allow him freedom to do it again? This monster should never have been let out. Frankly, in my opinion his earlier crimes should have resulted in a death sentance, or life in prison at the very least. I guess this is what's wrong with our legal system. They don't feel that properly persecuting criminals is important. Maybe the 'give them a hug and ask them not to do it again' tact really doesn't work...

This has been going on for far too many years..... Protest, talk to lawmakers and petition the courts whatever it takes to quit pandering to these vermin.... I think you're correct. We, as citizens, always complain about the laws and our judicial system but we don't proactively do anything about it. Criminals like this turd should entice enough individuals to make a stand and actively encourage lawmakers to do what is right and just.

 @Darn it! While I agree that we need much harsher sentences for sex offenders like this man, I think there needs to be some very clear guidelines as to what type of offense would constitute a life sentence. I know a kid who had consensual sex with his 16 year old girlfriend when he was 19 (they had been dating for two years) and he now has to register as a sex offender because her parents reported him to the police. He may have used some bad judgement, but I think most people would agree that he hardly deserves a life sentence over it, especially considering he is now 22 and she is 19 and they are still together.Â

When an issue is brought up and put on the ballot we have our say. But most of the time, that's what it takes for us to give some input. Wouldn't it be better to not wait and contact your representatives directly? Why leave it to the other guy to do it?
