Alaska Air gives employees $68 million in bonuses

SEATTLE (AP) - Alaska Air Group says it gave nearly 13,000 employees about $68 million in bonuses Wednesday for exceeding 2012 financial goals.
The bonuses of about 8 percent of annual pay were in addition to $20 million in monthly bonuses that employees earned last year for achieving on-time and customer satisfaction goals.
Alaska says $42 million of the annual bonus goes to 6,700 Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air employees in Washington. Another $9 million goes to 2,000 employees in Portland, $6.5 million to 1,600 workers in Alaska, and $6 million to 1,500 workers in California. The rest goes to Alaska employees in other parts of the country.

Nice1
The paper today said this figure was $88 million. Good for Alaska Air and good for their employees.
I like their service, the workers deserve the bonuses. Good for them !
Great to see companies back on the road to prosperity and then sharing that with their employees! Too often, these rewards go only to share holders or "C" level management.
@Kermee @keeper @Surveyor1 I have a family member that works for Alaska maintenance, and they clarified for me that 8% is for everyone, across the board, even transcending union affiliation.  Also, they said it applied to Horizion employees (part of Alaska Air Group) and the number of employees Kermee found appers to be Alaska Airlines specific.
Good job Alaska.
Good for them (have a relative working for Horizon), but not sure if this is something I would want to make public information.
Pretty good deal.
Good now drop your ticket prices.
I wonder what the breakdown was for different income level of employees (how much of that 68 million was bonuses to the very top few execs)?
@NW-Economist Well it should be fairly easy to figure out as the article clearly states that the bonus was 8%% of each employees annual pay.
@Surveyor1It doesn't say EACH employee. It would be good to hear from the little guys if they actually got the 8% bonus.
@Kermee Â
Some might be like contract employee's they don't have to report those employee's the same way. Its like Microsoft they have a lot of contract employees they don't even have to report.

Number of Alaska Airlines employees:Â 9,954
Something doesn't add up since it says "nearly 13,000 employees"...
Then it goes on to say: "Alaska says $42 million of the annual bonus goes to 6,700 Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air employees in Washington. Another $9 million goes to 2,000 employees in Portland, $6.5 million to 1,600 workers in Alaska, and $6 million to 1,500 workers in California. @Surveyor1Â @NW-EconomistNot really a conspiracy, they are a public company right? Simple greed.Â
@NW-Economist It's just much easier for you to beleive that everything is a conspiracy and that every single corporation is out to screw the little guy, isn't it?
I'm guessing the 80-20 rule applied...... 80% of the money went to the top 20%.
@The WA Mama That is similar to the 10-90 rule. 10% on top and 90% in the back. Mullet style.Â
