SHELTON, Wash. -- The teen whose disappearance triggered an Amber Alert on Wednesday has been found.
Vivian Gaspar-Guerrero was found in Olympia around 3:30 p.m. She had not been abducted as feared, investigators said.
The girl was reported missing at 7:30 a.m. after her family members found signs of struggle in her empty bedroom. They had last seen her the night before at 9 p.m.
"Investigators found the screen had been cut, the window had been open and there had been a struggle of some sort inside the bedroom," said Dean Byrd with the Mason County Sheriff's Office.
Byrd said the girl left her house on her own volition and walked 15-miles to a man's house in a small town near Harstine Island called Agate. When she got to the house, the man told her everyone was looking for her and called police.
Police are now interviewing the girl.

I know the girl very well. She has a good life and no reason to do this other than the fact that this kid that called the cops later is bad news and they wouldn't let her date him because of that. I am her best friend and I agree with her parents even. It's being said that he snuck over there last night and cut the screen himself the struggle was because she hadn't known that it was him when she realized it was him she left with him. He called later to turn her in because they realized what they had done. Right now they are both in huge trouble, especially him with the law I believe.
The girl has become famous with the Amber Alert.
The reason why this happened is between the girl and her parents, who have to be so relieved that she is safe. As far as legal ramifications for the girl -- that's a tough one, and I'm sure the authorities will have to weigh a lot of information to make the appropriate decision.Â
@LovesToTravel
I think that any discipline is up to her parents, but she should get some serious reminders that her actions were not only dangerous for her but potentially others as well. Right now I am sure they all just feel relief.  Â
My teen son won't turn off the video games long enough to sneak out of the house or even leave the house at all for that matter...Its weird that she slashed the screen, they are pretty easy to pop out and replace back when you sneak back in.  I would be a little suspicous as a parent with her story. I would be more likely to believe that the male friend helped her sneak out, slashing her screen and then called the police the next morning with this story after they figured out her parents called police and there was an Amber alert.
Â
@Ducky That is exactly what happened, I am close to the girl and her family.
Some follow-up would be helpful. How about it, KOMO?
I'm glad she is safe! Not going to comment on why, who, what, where until I hear the 'rest of the story' .
Apparently the police can't tell the difference between a typical teenager's messy bedroom and the scene of a struggle.
@ByeByeBarry that's not true, her room was a scene of a struggle, I know that family and spoke to them earlier today. As if they did stage it.
This smells.
the amber alert did work she is fine and in a lot of trouble .#2 sure hope they fix the screen or the next time it could be worse
I'm very glad that she was found safe and is back with her family. However, who are we to judge. She could have been threatend, scared and covered up some facts, maybe to protect herself or her family. I just can't see her walking 15 miles alone to go see someone. I truly hope the police continue to get more information on this case and not let it go.
The headline said found in Olympia but that isn't Hardstine Island or Agate it is closer to Shelton. Besides that hope she gets into some deep trouble if not by the law then he parents for running off in the first place and causing a huge problem
@Deb67 She is(: I know her and her family and have already spoke to them.
She needs to be thankful that nothing worse happened to her ON her way to the man's house! She could have been abducted by some loonie, or been injured walking alone late at night etc.
Now go ahead and figure out why she chose to do such a stupid thing to begin with. Make her work to help offset the costs of Amber alert searches...
@My opinion is My bet is teenage hormones. (Parent of a former teenager-from-hell who didn't get sane until she hit 20).
If she staged that scene and wasted police hours, she should be charged.
I donât know when the guy called her in, but at a slow walk of 2mph, she would have gotten to his house at 3PM. This guy was very smart. Donât mess around, donât waste time, call it in immediately. This little air head needs some real discipline to show her that her actions potentially pose a risk to other teens who may have been really accosted.  Her sort of actions are why there is often a delay before law enforcement declares it an abduction rather than a runaway.    Â
Given the OTHER incident this week in Shelton, let's just all breathe a prayer of thanksgiving that this girl is NOT going to turn up as a body in some deserted ravine some many months hence! Whatever made her do this, I hope that police and her parents figure it out and take such corrective action as MAY be appropriate. And I hope that police figure out why there were "signs of a struggle" in the girl's bedroom!
Â
However, I think and hope that the too-many predators out there realize that we have now gotten to having a "hair trigger" on Amber Alerts and suspected abductions of teens and children. We are NOT going to let another Zina Linnick go 12 hours or more without a full alert out.
When did 15 miles become such a long distance? I guess if you're texting the whole time and not looking where you're going. Bouncing off trees, etc.
@Klondiko She didnt even have her phone. you guys are jerks you dont even know her
@lilly1979 @Klondiko He's not denigrating the young girl. He's making mention of today's society where we think walking 15 miles is so unordinary.
That is a pretty long walk for a teenager and although teenagers can do goofy things, this just seems too far outside of normal teenage behavior. I hate to say it but chances are there is something not right in the background. I hope the police don't just pronounce the girl safe and move on, I have to hope they can figure this out, these things just tend to get worse unless someone can step in.Â
@kennewickman I know the family and they are an outstanding family. It was probably because she had a boyfriend and her parents thought she was too young for boyfriends
Wow! To think that she walked for 15 miles undetected with cars & traffic passing by and only when she reaches her destination does anybody recognize her. Amazing to say the least!

@jennifer . Or, she could be using drugs and made a bad decision while high, or she could have been convinced to do so by a boyfriend. Please don't automatically tag it as a problem in the home, considering that first thing in the morning they checked on her and called police when she was gone.
Signs of a struggle? Well, I can tell you that my teens bedrooms look like twisters went through them. If they ever went missing I guess the cops would think there were "signs of a struggle" as well.
EXACTLY WHAT I SAID YESTERDAY..she has that look..RUNAWAY..

@jennifer . @Six Pack Fury Dan shows lack of honesty on your behalf honestly. look at the eyes or the forced smile in all three pics of her that says unhappy "RUNAWAY" everyone judges everyone by looks no matter how small it is. It is beat into us as kids you see someone suspicious you cross the street or hold your purse alittle tighter right?
@Six Pack Fury Dan
And just what does a runaway "look like"?
Personally, I do feel she should have a day or two in juvie to "scare" the crud out of her. Every teen who decides to be a stupid idiot like this to get even with thier parents are just one more reason why detectives hesitate to follow up on a true case of "missing person" reports when it involves a teen. Even if the teen is gone for over 24 hours they are reluctant to take a report because it's likely they're "just acting out or are a runaway". It doesn't even matter if the teen in question has developmental delays, they're treated with the same jaded attitude. Grow up already and realize it's not all about your precious little princess feelings.
@MHunt While I agree with your comment I must also point out that it was the Amber Alert which prompted the 'man' to get the girl back to the authorities.
That doesnt add up, Harstine island and Agate are a ways apart....and in the opposite direction from Olympia. Â I know I grew up out there.
@Woodswalker Agate is about 5 minutes from Harstine Island. You might be thinking of Allyn.Â
@Woodswalker Agate is about 5 minutes from Harstine Island. You might be thinking of Allyn. Shelton is closer to Olympia than Agate.
@Shelton02 No it isn't. Agate is approx. 18 min. from Shelton and Olympia is about 25 min.
@Shelton02 I grew up nearer to Shorecrest Beach Club.  Turn Rt at the Agate Store not L.
@Shelton02 Snicker...by auto maybe...not by 10 speed.  Agate Store to the bridge is a half hour on a bike, depending how hard you pedaled.
This family needs some intervention. The man will hopefully be investigated for luring a minor. I am super glad that she is alive and/or not someone's slave today.
@Magic 8 Ball I hope this isn't just some guy who ends up having his life ruined because some silly girl developed a crush on him.
Then again, perhaps the man is just a family friend or something. Who knows at this point.
@Magic 8 Ball I am interested in hearing what was said during her interview with the police. Maybe the "man" was an 18 year old or something like that. Hmmm.
Shame on her! I feel so bad for her parents.
Hope whatever she was up to was worth it. Â Payback is a ditch.
I am glad she is safe however the parents should also explain the report of the fake call. There was a lot of people helping from various agencies around the state. I feel the parents should have to foot part of the bill for the man hours. Obviously the parents did not make calls to her friends and/or other family BEFORE launching a full blown search on her. Had they done that maybe they would have learned something sooner and not wasted valuable police time.
@Spunkiegirl Based on the news published, where was the "obvious" statements that the parents didnt make calls that you suggest? Cite please.
Â
For all that is known, the young woman did leave in the middle of the night without the family's knowledge, staged the kidnapping all so she could go to see someone in Olympia. So the call is genuine on that basis alone.
Â
Dont throw "obviously" around when you arent aware of actual facts and not supposition, it will only make you look unintelligent.
@Spunkiegirl Then again, maybe the parents DID call around to try & find her but got no cooperation from her friends. If she ran away, chances are they either didn't know or were helping her.
Just heard another Amber Alert message for this girl on the radio. Someone should tell the radio stations to STOP PLAYING IT if she's been found. Derrrr
Good, safe she is. And, my prediction she had run away shown true. Who she went with (or to meet) doesn't matter now, but she does have a ton of explaining to do to her family, and to some extent the authorities who launched the Amber Alert.
Likewise, those same authorities need to brush up on their investigative techniques as what they 'thought' were indicators of a struggle, seem a little premature now.
@theToucan If she ran away, she may have been tossing clothes all over to pack up what she wanted to leave. That could look like a struggle. And with a cut screen, it'd fit the look.
@XabuJr Yup, and I'd lay a guess (as others here have noted) that hers was not a pristine room to start with. I'd also wager that she hides ALOT from her parents, enough that they really aren't in touch with her life outside the home.
