FBI joins search for Shelton teen subject of Amber Alert

SEATTLE (AP) - When the parents of a 16-year-old girl went to her bedroom Wednesday morning, they found the room in disarray, the window open and the screen cut - signs of a struggle that led the Mason County sheriff's office to issue an Amber alert for Vivian Gaspar-Guerrero.
She was last seen at 9 p.m. the night before in her bedroom.
Authorities don't believe she ran away or left voluntarily with someone.
"We believe that, more likely than not, this is a legitimate abduction," said Chief Criminal Deputy Dean Byrd.
There are no suspects.
Deputies have canvassed and re-canvassed the neighborhood near the town of Shelton, about 45 miles southwest of Seattle. They have no leads, Byrd said.
By Wednesday afternoon, a Washington State Patrol trooper and FBI agent were also on the scene.
The federal agency is assisting the sheriff's office, FBI spokeswoman Ayn Dietrich in Seattle confirmed.
The sheriff's office also has asked for crime scene investigation help from the Washington State Patrol crime lab, Byrd said.
Gaspar-Guerrero is Hispanic, 5-foot-2 and weighs 128 pounds. She has brown eyes and black hair just past her shoulders. She is believed to be wearing black shorts and a black blouse.
The family received a call Wednesday from an unidentified person who said the girl was found, but authorities believe that was a false report, Byrd said.
The parents didn't know who it was from, and there was no such call to dispatchers.
"At this point, it's unsubstantiated if not malicious," Byrd said.

They found her safe in Olympia
I'm also praying for her safe return.Â
I assume they traced that call.Â
My thoughts are with Vivian and her family! I can't even imagine the horror and emotion that they are experiencing! Keep your eyes open, everyone. Praying that Vivian is found, safe and unharmed!
I meant quickly and unharmed.
I pray that young Vivian is found safe & sound. What an awful experience for her family & friends.
My heart goes out to the girl and her parents. I will be keeping an eye open for her. Hopefully this turns out OK.
I feel appalled at the amount of kidnapping attempts that have surfaced in the recent few weeks. I only hope that this young woman is returned home safe so she may move forward with her life.
This is so gut wrenching. I cannot imagine what her parents are going through.
I hope they backtrack where she has been the past days, weeks... Checking video tape from stores, malls etc in case some nutcase followed her or the family home and planned this horrible thing.
Hope she is safe...
Â
...but at 16 there is a possibility she left with her beau and they ran away together. I'd much rather that than the alternative which involves violence.
UM, WHAT PHONE NUMBER DO WE DIAL IF SHE IS SEEN?
@Missingchildadvocate Your name is Missingchildadvocate and you don't know to just call 911?
 @Missingchildadvocate 911
Â
you call 911 if you see her.
Praying for her safety.
@Missingchildadvocate Um, 911?
Oh no. Hope they find her safe.
FYI - you can sign up to receive Amber Alerts Via Text to your phone. I received one at 10am for her
@Xirxious I always got them on my Verizon cell but now I'm on Virgin Mobile prepaid and they don't offer that service for this carrier.

@DarkRenegade okay. It's all good. I was just trying to offer some help when it counts most, which is as soon as possible. Had a search team been formed and/or an amber alert put out sooner in Lindsey Baum's case, she may have been found right away.
@Hairball I do applaud your efforts, dont misunderstand my intention with my last message. And a forum is defined as a 'public meeting place for open discussion' which this constitutes as such.
@Hairball It is unwise to post your email or seek to assist the efforts through the forum. If you want to help, contact the Shelton PD directly.
My prayers go out to that family. I pray that she will be found safe!
i pray that someone find her safe. my heart goes out to the family.
there is no divorce.. its not a relative, i am in the family and theres not much family living in this state.I just Hope she comes home soon! We Love you Vivian!!!Â
@Audrey Vasquez I will keep your family in my prayers.
I'd like to know if they suspect a relative. Could it be a domestic abduction from a divorced or estranged parent. If so, please provide a description of the adult who may have abducted her.
Here ya go.

That's 3 major incidents within 2 weeks in Shelton. Thats unbelievable. Unfortunate it has taken 2 1/2 hours to issue an AMBER Alert since this girl was taken. I hope they get photos and more information up soon. Unfortunately at this point in time, unless you know her, no-one will be able to distinguish who she is. 5'2" 128 describes allot of people. And with the time span, she could be in Oregon by now.Â
Â
Edit: Finaly a photo. TY KOMO, that was speedy.
There's a photo of her right here: http://www.amberalert.com/alerts/58eab94559dedd384d88a1c2b85b4bc8/
This entire area has turned into a "scary place", Crowley.
@chandler t has been hit hard economically no doubt, but this scariness is slowly seeping everywhere. It's just this year the body count has been heartbreaking in Mason County. Be it suicides, DUI, murders, water accidents resulting in drownings, etc., just don't recall it being so high and relentless. A really rough year for many with no end in sight. :-/
Reading stories like this always makes me both sad and angry. Hoping for the best possible outcome for this young woman. Here are very concerning statistics. In Shelton, there are only 185 residents for each registered sex offender, compared to an average of 1456 residents for each registered sex offender statewide. http://www.city-data.com/so/so-Shelton-Washington.html
@Opus8no5 Shelton and Mason Co has long been a dumping ground for the "richer" counties (Thurston, Pierce and King) for sex offenders and other offenders as its less expensive for living...I grew up there many moons ago.  My childhood best friend is the Sheriff now, what he tells me would curl your hair.
@Woodswalker He's a terrific sherrif BTW, my heart goes out to  him and his staff who are excellent. What's refreshing is how big his heart is. I give those guys and women some real credit for not only the politics he must deal with, but the great job they do and it is not appreciated by the powers that be.
@Woodswalker You are correct, in that he is one of the most decent human beings I've ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with. And I've traveled extensively and I couldn't agree with you more.Â
@alexcrowley He has always been a 100% decent guy, part of why we are still friends. He has assembled a good staff and is dilligent about staying on top of things.
Picture of her, please! STAT!
How about posting a picture?
Thanks KOMO. This helps.
Please try and post a picture as soon as you can!
Not good..hope they find her soon.
Â
A photo should be posted ASAP for people to be on the lookout for her.
Hope she's found ASAP safely and soon! Scary little town Shelton has regressed into  :-(
