Armed robbers target White Center jewelry store
SEATTLE -- Police are searching for a group of armed robbers who held up a White Center jewelery and grocery store Thursday afternoon.
The robbery happened just before 12:30 p.m. when four men wearing black hoodies and dark-colored bandanas entered a combination jewelry and grocery store in the 9400 block of 16th Ave SW. Police say at least one of the men was carrying a handgun.
The only person inside the store at the time was the owner, a 58-year-old woman. The robbers ordered the woman onto the ground and repeatedly threatened to shoot her, according to police.
The thieves went directly to an open safe behind the counter and grabbed several display trays containing jewelry before running out the back door.
A witness told police the men drove off in a silver van.
Responding officers were able to track down a silver Dodge Caravan at an apartment complex in the 9400 block of 27th Ave. SW.
As they were investigating the scene, a witness told officers they saw four men park the van and drive away in another car, which the witness said was a red and green Ford Crown Victoria sedan.
The car and the robbers remain at large.
