Assault charges filed in courthouse brawl

KENT, Wash. -- Newly obtained surveillance video sheds light on the Monday morning courthouse brawl that left a police detective, a prosecutor and a Renton man with cuts and bruises.
The melee began outside a courtroom at the Maleng Regional Justice Center at 9:30 a.m. Inside the courtroom, a man was being tried for his role in a 2012 drive-by shooting in Seattle, and police say 23-year old Aydriane Holloway was there to support the defendant.
Police say Holloway and several other witnesses, victims and supporters of the defendant began arguing outside the courthouse during a recess. When a plainclothes Seattle Police detective tried break it up, police say Holloway attacked him.
Holloway's family believes the police overreacted, but the detective said Holloway was the aggressor.
Holloway was back in court on Tuesday, but this time it was to face a judge on a pair of assault charges.
"Aydriane didn't egg anybody on. He just turned around to look, to see who was speaking to him, and he got beat," said Holloway's mother, Debbie Farmer.
Detectives say none of this would have happened if Holloway had not showed up to his friend's hearing and tried to intimidate the victim and witnesses, which sparked the scuffle outside of the courtroom.
"At one point, (Holloway) closed the distance between himself and the detective, thereby grabbing him by the collar of his coat and punching him in the face," said Kent Assistant Police Chief Pat Lowery.
Surveillance footage from the courthouse doesn't capture the punch, but once the angle shifts, the video appears to show Holloway being held down by several officers. The video also shows a deputy prosecutor curled up on the ground after he, too, was allegedly attacked by Holloway.
"And in the process of trying to pull the suspect off of the officer, (the prosecutor) was initially grabbed, brought to the ground, and kicked in the chest," Lowery said.
Holloway looked to have a swollen face at his Tuesday court appearance, and his family says he was brutalized by the police.
"I cried. That's my son's father. It's terrible. It's swollen," said Amanda Gablenz, who has a child with Holloway.
On Tuesday, a judge set Holloway's bail at $20,000, saying the courthouse attack made him a threat to public safety. His family strongly disagrees.
"It's making me lose faith in our system, and in the police," Farmer said.
Holloway has no prior convictions, but is named in a domestic violence protection order and had an arrest warrant out on a theft investigation. He'll be back in court on Thursday to face the assault charges.

Iâm Aydrianeâs sons mother (Not his baby mamma) your comments are rude and uncalled for! Iâm highly discussed with peopleâs comments. (Hood Rat) Really? Iâm far from one. I have been in school for Criminal Justice and wanted for years to be a Homicide Detective. Honestly Iâm reconsidering my educational path I have started. I used to have respect for Police officers. I understand there are good police in the world and there are police that let their power go to their head. I have the whole video that came from the security department from the court house. Itâs hard to sit and watch it. Not once do you see Aydriane assault the detective. The people who are leaving hurtful comments about my family are little minded and bored in my opinion. No one in life is perfect all of us come from different walks of life. Who is anyone to judge someone? That is Godâs job. This is 100% Police brutality. Seattle Police Department is and has been under investigation for this. I have seen videos on youtube regarding this issue in Seattle. The video will be released in time so people can see the truth. Aydriane is not a violent person. He is always lending a helping hand and far from a monster that the police are making him seem like. There is not a lot to say because I find it a waste of time to sit here and go back in forth with people who are little minded. I was taught if you donât have nothing nice to say donât say it all. This is not over and the public will see the truth of what happened in the court house that day.
Iâm extremely tired of the rude comments against my son, myself and my grandsonâs mother, who by the way is in school for Criminal Justice. I have raised my children to be respectful and responsible for their actions in life. The comments in regards to me being a âHood Ratâ are outrages! I have worked hard my whole life to give my children a good life. Iâm very well respected in the public eye. I was raised by very hard working parents who are retired form Boeing and Todd ship yard. My parents brought me up in a religious environment with good morals. I have done the same with my four children. Iâm very proud of who they are today. As for my son Aydriane, He is a very kind hearted, Outgoing person who is extremely family orientated. Who mind you does work.  Iâm proud of the upbringing of my children. People who are judging me, my son, and my grandsonâs mother are showing me nothing but ignorance. Until you hear both sides of the story please keep your comments to yourself. I have raised my children that if you do wrong you will suffer the consequences not only in the laws eyes but in Godâs eyes as well. What ever happened to the saying innocent until proven guilty? My son will not be proven guilty. He did not hit, nor kick a detective in any given moment in the video. What happened to the rest of the video? Why are they not showing the whole video to the public? Why didnât they show Aydriane getting head butted, getting kneed and punched? Something is not right! They are scared because they know they messed up. They are making false accusations on my son to cover it up. Itâs okay, what doesnât come out in the wash will come out in the rinse. Then we will see whoâs man or women enough to apologize for their rude and ignorant behavior and comments. This is just the beginning. Things will be brought to the light very soon. It has taken me a while to reply because I have a full time job and I do not have free time on my hands to gossip on peopleâs lives. This is an example of police brutality enough is enough!
Here's what I want to say, using an example: My father, whom I have the utmost respect for, would never in a million years ever have gotten himself into a situation where things got to the point of violence. In other words, there would be no need. He would have conducted himself with deference and respect to all, despite perhaps disagreeing with them. That doesn't mean you have to agree or even like a person to do so. You do it because it's right and you are confident in who you are. Today, this type of integrity is largely missing.
Â
There are ways of getting your point across, even to those who you disagree with, or feel are against you, with at least self respect, no sarcasm, and without inciting violence. You respond to those around you in the way you choose.
Â
I can't imagine ANY scenario, EVER, that he would end up either having to defend himself, or being violent. He would have handled the situations that came up such that it was a non-issue. This is really the point.
Need to hear the FULL story on this before passing any judgement.
How DARE you "people" comment on my family and pre-judge them. You don't know us, how we live, how we raise our children or anything of the sort. Just because we are part black doesn't mean that we recieve welfare benefits, are gang related or. The last time I checked BLACKS make up 3% of the WA state population. 39% of whites are on welfare. Hmmmm? Those comment are outrageous. I own 3 homes, employed by a very reputable agency and have enough money to hire a lawyer in defense of my nephew at any given time. We were raised by a polish woman who retired from Boeing and a black man who owned his own business and contracted by Todd Shipyards as a painter and welder for many years- and are well off. My family does NOT need to sue for money. It's about respect, his civil rights and his right to be safe especially while in a government building. What this video doesn't show is the victims of the DBS threatening and harassing my nephew Aydrian and his friend. This is why he left the court room. He was leaving to get on the elevators and was approached by the two men in the right hand corner of the video who you can clearly see trying to lunge at my nephew when he was on the ground. While trying to protect hiself he was HEAD-BUTTED by this plain clothes police man, ruffed-up and attacked. The plain clothes officer never revealed who he was until after the altercation started, and Aydrian started to defend hiself. The video shows none of this, and also doesn't show the punching, kicking and beating that went on for about 2-3 minutes after he was hand cuffed. So to those of you who want to comment on him being a "threat to society" and a "trouble maker", you really should get the facts first. I will re-itterate that the whole video was not shown and the news tried thier best to make him out to be a terrible person. He had the right to be a spectator at court, and now he ends up being a victim and facing many charges. This is BS. And for his choice of clothing he is a big guy and doesn't wear nut huggers or skinny jeans. Wearing big pants doesn't make you a gang member. Does every white person who has a tatoo and drives a Harley while wearing leather jacket make you a skin head or a prt of the Hell's Angels? I don't think so. AS for domestic violence or court protection orders, I'm sure most of you on this post don't have a perfect life with your significant other either. An arguement with a boyfriend or girlfriend, husband or wife, doesn't constitute that they have a violent relationship. STOP JUDGING, sounds like you have nothing better to do than jump on a bandwaggon for racial profiling and racially biased comments every time you get a chance. The bible says âLet any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." Read John 8:7 and get the real facts before you start judging. I'd like to see some of your criminal records. SMDH.
 @M. RobertsÂ
ROTFLOL!!
Punk got what he deserved for being stupid, now Mom and baby mom want to cry about it.
@Alex Clayton  @M. Roberts Glad you know the whole story and that you're psychic.
Â
Oh wait.
@M. Roberts "As parents- as long as we can say in our hearts that we taught our children right from wrong, basic bible principles, and to follow god's rules. WE as PARENTS have done our part." How did you TEACH your children RIGHT from WRONG and all THE principles of the bible AND God's rules if THEY are obviously not utilizing THOSE skills. Did your PARENTS even teach you these skills? M, Its KIND of like a snowball effect.....your parents parents, your parents AND now you have failed to raise a corgel human BEING. Some people should have to TAKE a parenting competency TEST before THEY are allowed to breed. I am luckly enough to observe other peoples actions to know what to do and what not to do WHEN you are raising a child. And no, I do not have children (cause i know you'll ask in a reply.) lol I will have children when THE time is right FOR me and my HUSBAND (capslock that because he IS not and WILL NOT be A babby daddy, not just because M caps every other word in comments below ) lol And to think....I was having a bad day before I started reading all of these post. :D Bye for NOW
@as a matter of fact Are you serious?????? Ha! And they said my family "breeds" thier kids. What racism. Remember we are all imperfect human beings and as parents make MANY mistakes. For the record...black people don't breed thier kids. That comment is disgusting to me, and you need to have some respect for the human race. We are all the same color inside, live and die, breathe and have the same color blood. We are all god's children and he sees no clors.  If I breed my children...then you will be breeding yours too. Human to Human.   Â
@M. Roberts It's funny how you are the only one that keeps pointing out racism. Let me guess that will be the basis of the upcoming lawsuit!!! LOL
@M. Roberts Breeding is the reproduction, that is, producing of offspring - Courtesy of wikipedia Thanks much, They
@M. Roberts YES, I WIN! I knew you were going to reply. Woot Woot. Oh and BTW I AM BLACK! "Some people should have to TAKE a parenting competency TEST before THEY are allowed to breed." Good Day
@as a matter of fact Wow, this whole reply is TOTALLY and COMPLETELY  uncalled for!
Â
You have NO idea what has been going on in her or her nephew's life and man, you are being judgmental as all get out.Â
Â
Especially considering this is an AUNT not the mom.
Â
Â
@WAbornnraised Yes, I am "judgmental as all get out" to everyone who acts in mischievous ways to harm others and to everyone who makes this world we are living on the worst place in the universe. I mean come on people.....learn your "golden keys" (please and thank yous) and learn when to keep your mouth shut and your hands and actions to yourself. It is so sad that there are this many waste of people in the world. I wonder what it would be like if EVERYONE in the ENTIRE world acted like the huxtable family. GOOD DAY SIR!
@WAbornnraised - Same BLOOD line. And she sure is acting like THE mother. If my nephew or neice WERE like this sack of crap kid I would not allow myself or my childrens lives TO be effected by this kind of behavior. Good Day Sir!
@M. Roberts This has nothing to do with race. Don't play that game. The kid was there "supporting his friend" (and in the process trying to intimidate other people in the courtroom), then when things escalated outside the courtroom, he grabbed the detective by the collar and punched him- he threw the first punch-or is the whole report a lie? If anything, KOMO has been very much publicizing police brutality- taking a stand against the police (to a fault in my opinion). But this has nothing to do with race. This is to do with poor judgement by your nephew. I'd be making the same comments white, asian, whatever. Playing the race card- THAT is what's BS.
@Scoondog You can call it race card but IT IS WHAT IT IS. i remember in the 90's a kid was slammed into a brick wall by a SPD officer. He ended up in a coma. The news didn't show him throwing a 40 bottle at the officer's and resisting arrest, being drunk in public, fighting people on the street etc. and a being threat to public safety. BUT his mom got on the news and said the police used excessive force and sued for millions. That case was OK with everyone and people felt sorry for him and condoned the accusations of the victim. I wonder why? And yes the news is telling the police's side of the story THE WAY THEY SEE IT. They never interviewed my nephew. REMEMBER....there are 2 sides to every story.  HE WAS THE ONE BEING INTIMIDATED. WATCH THE GUYS IN THE RIGHT HAND CORNER ON THE VIDEO TRYING TO LUNGE AT HIM WHILE ON THE GROUND. These were the aggressors. CLEARLY. Ignorance is bliss. Yes I agree at the wrong place at the wrong time. But this doesn't consitute a beating by police and being strangled suffocated while on the ground in hand cuffs. I hope that the SPD never catches YOU while having a bad day. This could have happened to anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@M. Roberts  @Scoondog If in having a bad day, I punch a cop, then I would fully expect to get punched back- probably a few times. You see, I simply have never, nor would I ever, do that (at least not a cop) That's just not something that you do, unless you're a lawless thug. I remember the case you're talking about, and that was a completely different set of circumstances. But hey, it looks like there were witnesses, and I'm sure we'll be hearing more about all the details of what happened. If indeed he threw the first punch, as from all I'm gathering, he did indeed.
@M. Roberts  @Scoondog The reference to "throwing a 40 bottle" is racist. Please stop it. I am deeply offended.
@M. Roberts Your kid is a punk. He hangs with punks. He goes to Court to "support" his punk friend. You're a punk enabler. I don't have any criminal record unlike your son and his baby mama. So here's my stone right back atcha.
@Getov Mylon Well, First of all  If you read my comment correctly and were able to comprehend it this is not MY son.Your rude comments consitute your ignorance, and your racially biased thinking. My NEPHEW going to court to view a hearing doesn't mean that he is supporting the person being charged. The NEWS said he was a supporter, my nephew hasn't been interviewed or had a chance to tell HIS side of the story yet. BUT WHEN HE DOES you will eat your comments.
 @M. Roberts  @Getov Sorry, let me amend my comments;
Â
Your nephew is a punk. He hangs with punks. He goes to Court to "support" his punk friend. You're a punk enabler. I don't have any criminal record unlike your nephew and his baby mama. So here's my stone right back atcha.
Â
Racially biased? Really? I guess that will be news to my Guatemalan step-son and the other one who is Jamaican (Don't refer to him as black. He's Jamaican, he'll tell you.) And if any of them were involved in  some crime, they know d#m* sure that I would be on the prosecution side, not mau-mauing to the cameras going, "Ohhh... mah po innocent bayyyy-by."
@Getov Mylon  @M. Roberts So, at what point did the cops put the boots to the defense attorney? Since they were the only ones getting physical, I must assume that the cops also assaulted him.
Here's some advice for Holloway's mother.... 1. Tell your kids that who they hang out with is a reflection of them. 2. Don't make excuses for your kid's bad behavior - punish them and hold them accountable. 3. Don't lie and say your poor baby is innocent and a victim when he has plenty of skin in the situation. That being said, covering up for your kid is not doing him any favors. The rest of the world is not going to tolerate that kind of crap from your "precious angel".
We as a family do not "cover up" anything that our kids do. We are a Christian family and beleive that you reap what you sew. If you do the crime you do the time. I respect your comment about the choice of people that you hang with may get you into trouble. I preach to my children and nieces/nephews about staying away from troubled people and situations. As parents- as long as we can say in our hearts that we taught our children right from wrong, basic bible principles, and to follow god's rules. WE as PARENTS have done our part. I will say it again- THE WHOLE VIDEO WAS NOT SHOWN. A person has a right to protect themselves. And in this scenario this is the case.
If you watch the video you can clearly see the bald guy which I assume was the undercover getting physical with these guys first. There's was no need to touch them at all.
You are correct. The plain clothes officer who did not announce that he was an officer put hands on Aydriane, not rough at first but on his shoulders I believe. If any person who was not dressed as a cop came up and touched me I would freak out.
@myrongaines EXACTLY!!! And if you are going to escort someone out of a building- tell them who you are first. What was there to hide? Why did the plain clothes police man not IDENTIFY himself as such? And then start scuffing them up and Head butting them...Hmmmm? Makes you wonder?
@M. Roberts My question to you is, if the cop had not been there, what would have transpired between the two parties? If you say they would have had a civil conversation and went their separate ways, then you are a lying. You know damn well that it would have gotten ugly if someone was not there to control the situation.
@M. Roberts Okay, I won't speak in "if's", I KNOW there would have been a fight had the cops not been there. I understand that you are not happy about how they treated your nephew, but look at the video. The story of him being a simple bystander does not match video. The video show him pushing through the cop to get to the other guy. Maybe the other guy started talking s@#t to your nephew, unfortunately for him, he's the one who took it to the next level. He elevated it to a physical confrontation, to which, the cops responded. Your nephew was clearly aggravated, and I doubt the "missing video" shows him calming down than getting pummeled by the officers.Â
@JK15 That may have been we don't know. Don't speak about IF's. Yes the fight or potential fight should have been avoided. I'm glad the police were there. Just not happy about the way my nephew was handled.
@myrongaines The bald guy is trying to keep the parties apart and prevent a fight. So yes, there was a need to touch him.
@JK15 hmm sounds like if that's the case he assaulted (touched) them first. He even grabs and shoves both of them at 1:20.
Â
Regardless filing charges over this is a waste of time for everyone.
@myrongaines So he should have just let him go after the other guy with out getting in the middle? You do realize that Holloway is pushing the cop to try and get at the other guy and not pushing the cop for "assaulting" him, right?Â
This comment has been deleted
He isn't a "Baby Daddy" he is a father, and thats MY sister and My nephew you are talking about. You people make me sick. Just wait until the full length video comes out and you all feel dumb. Acting knowing judgemental people you will just make up an excuse as to how black people are more and looking for money and sueing the state.
@Bubba Gunners Ummm...do you have children?
@M. Roberts I do!! This man has an arrest record AND this man has a protection order against him. THIS ALL PROVES HE IS OBVIOUSLY A VIOLENT PERSON!! If my son had both I wouldn't be so quick to defend him.
Losing faith in the police? How about losing faith in good parenting?
"Aydriane didn't egg anybody on. He just turned around to look, to see who was speaking to him, and he got beat,"Â
Â
I would say that the plain close cop showed remarkable restraint in trying to keep the two parties away from each other. Apparently his mom missed the part where her innocent son is pushing the cop while trying to get to the other guy. I suppose that most moms would defend their kid, but if she really believes he was just standing there and got attacked by the cops than she has her head in the sand.Â
Must of taken a day off from work to be in court that day aye..
@ Audrey - seriously?? There is white trash and there is black trash and you seem to be right in the middle with trash on both sides. Doesn't matter where you grew up. The thug in the jeans to his knees defending a drive by shooter?? Supporting HIS baby? It just goes on and on. Thug life and your sister seems to be wrapped up in it. Don't defend ignorance.
Did I mention I live in Scottsdale, have a very good paying job. A gorgeous condo, nice car an eduction...etc. excuse me, white trash? I live in the richest city in Arizona so you can stop right now with your white trash bs. He was not there to defend a drive by shooting. Aydriane is very much a family man, its like him to help people out and suport them, blood or not he accepted people. I just love how everyone thinks everything in the news is true.....There is alwyas more than we see. So, as said before just wait until the whole non edited version of the tape come out. How will see.
@lilducati Don't post ignorance. Get the facts before you speak. DON'T ASSUME THAT AMANDA OR HER SISTER ARE TRASH. Do you know them personally?
@M. Roberts  @lilducati We do know that Amanda filed for a protection order against your sweet, kind nephew back in June.
Â
Case #12-2-19718-1
Â
A misunderstanding, I am sure.
M, you might not be commenting back but you know you're still reading these.....lol Thanks, They
@M. Roberts People who do not get along do not file for protection orders. People who are scared of someone get protection orders and yes it does have a lot to do with what happened because it says a lot about what type of a person he is.
@as a matter of fact That's because no one wants to hear the truth :) because the truth as you pointed out hurts them so instead of accepting responsibility they lash out.
@M. Roberts @Getov Mylon - How much you want to bet she does not "end this" and just keeps freaking the eff out on eveyone who has something to say?! lol THANK YOU, M - Good day
@Getov Mylon @lilducati Good! that is what those orders are for..people who may or may not get along. No doubt about that. A protection order has NOTHING, NOTHING AT ALL to do with what happened on the 3rd floor of the RJC on Monday. Why do you keep bringing that up? That is not the issue at hand. I think you may be a little bit special or something. Especially if that is the only thing you have to say. Your a little boy, who has too much time on his hands apparently. I'm going to end this and all correspondance on this blog now. I don't have time to entertain ignorant people who have nothing better to do than jump on band waggons and bash people they don't know.
He has a restraining order? Tells me he is prone to violence, his best friend he came to support is up for a drive by shooting? Sure his mom defends him, it's what women in those situations do. If she doesn't she becomes a victim of his violent nature also. Lock the ***hole up...he doesn't have any respect for society, or the justice system.
