Assault suspect dies after jumping from 4th-floor hotel window
MUKILTEO, Wash. - A man has died after barricading himself inside a fourth-story hotel room then jumping out the window as deputies were attempting to arrest him for assault, officials said.
The bizarre incident began at about 3 a.m. Friday when deputies were dispatched to the Hilton Garden Inn at Paine Field in response to a report of an assault, said Shari L. Ireton of the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.
When they arrived, deputies found a woman in one of the hotel rooms who had been attacked by the man. She was sent to a nearby hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, the man barricaded himself in a fourth-floor hotel room when deputies attempted to take him into custody.
He threw a table through the room’s outside window, then jumped from the window, hitting his head and sustaining critical injuries. He died before medics could arrive at the scene.
The identity of the man is unknown at this time, Ireton said.
The woman is a 39-year-old from California who apparently was staying at the hotel, but it is not believed she is related to the man or that she was staying with him.
No weapons were involved. The investigation continues.

He defenestrated himself.
Â
How ironic that it happened near the air field.
So the dude assaulted a lady then assaulted himself, NICE. I hope for a speedy recovery for the lady.
Finally, a news story with a happy ending!
wonderful news.
I wish more of these miscreants would do the same. Saves our justice system loads of money.
@Deathcheater Well, maybe. But look out below!
Strange it always works in the movies. Maybe he forgot to perform the obiligatory flying round house kick or yell HIYAAAAA as he jumped out the window.
All over an assault? Wow! Wish more serious offenders could take this rightful action. ;)
Ah some good news!
Costs to taxpayers, nil!
One less trial to pay for. This guy won't hurt anyone again.
Flying zombies now????? Oh man. **facepalm**
Well yeah, when you jump out of a 4th story window, the ground's gonna win!
@DMT LOL! Almost sounds like a blonde joke!
The passing of another career criminal.
The world is saddened.
Pretty cool when a dumbarse dies and the overall IQ average of the local population goes up. Making America smarter, one idiot at a time.
Huh, huh, huh, huh, Paine Field.
Well, talk about a win win for everyone involved problem solved..
@Windowseat Not really a win for the hotel.
@Furd  @Windowseat Or the woman who was attacked.
@Darn it! No, definitely not a win for her either.
My guess is that the guy was on something or had outstanding warrants. In todays revolving door of justice there had to be some reason that we are not aware of as of yet that caused him to choose death over arrest
Can I get his Hilton points?
@rainbowsandunicorns I don't he was properly checked out. His hotel bill may not be settled.
Oh, darn. Â He took himself out.
What money was saved idiots? The man would had been booked in jail for assault then released a few hours later on his own recognition. Meanwhile this investigation continues.
@Larry*X*K Ah yeah, what surfer said. So "we're" idiots? Hmm.
@Larry*X*K Lets see, say he was booked in jail in King County; using an aggregated figure from other jails over the last few years, it would cost about $100 per day (lowest figure being $81, highest being $129). Once booked in jail, he would go to court, be assigned a public defender, and plead guilty or not guilty, and granted or denied bail, depending on his criminal history, flight risk, and nature of his crime.
Â
The charges would likely lead to a plea agreement or trial, which would cost taxpayers several thousand dollars at the very minimum. Meanwhile, detectives from SPD would still have to investigate the crime and gather evidence, which would be used in court in the case against the defendent. Yet, using your logic, it will now cost more money because the suspect jumped out the window and killed himself. Strange.
Â
My hunch is that detectives may investigate as a low priority, but given the fact that the suspect is dead and there is no further action that can be done, the case will likely be closed. Maybe you know something we dont, because we are idiots?
Aaaah, a self-cleansing of the Gene Pool. TYVM.
Thanks for saving us some money.
We're going to really miss him, I hope he had a nice flight.
Natural Selection at its finest.. Â No good will come from jumping out of a 3rd story window onto the ground, unless it is on fire, and even then it's still not at good odds that you will win vs concrete.Â
@Rsills82 that's why he jumped from the 4thÂ
@Komo Dragon Bleh, yeah I just re-read it.. I could have sworn it said 3rd floor when I read it.. oh well =) It just makes my point even more.
 @Rsills82 cheap shot, I know ;-)
Drugs? What does this mean "...The woman is a 39-year-old from California who apparently was staying at the hotel, but it is not believed she is related to the man or that she was staying with him." rape?
@Funky-Munky I was wondering that also, both staying at the same hotel, maybe hooked up for a party and things got out of hand?
Justice has been served !
it;s incidents like this where people learn real life isn't exactly like the Matrix
Ooooo! Someone got run over by the karma train....
Saved the taxpayers money!
@RightyTighty Right on!
