Baby born at 1 pound now a thriving 5-year-old
KIRKLAND, Wash. -- We have an update on one of the tiniest babies ever born in our area. Emma Lamb was born 15 weeks early and weighed a mere 15 ounces.
She entered the world with dire predictions. Her parents were told she likely wouldn't survive.
If she did, she could be blind, brain damaged and need a nurse around the clock.
But Emma kept growing. She went from surviving to thriving.
"Today she's a fun, friendly little girl," said Emma's mother Elena Lamb. "She loves to play and run, she loves her friends."
Emma just turned 5-years-old. She is the oldest in her pre-school class and one of the smallest.
She has weekly therapy for sensory, speech and movement issues. But her health is no longer her parents' biggest concern.
"I don't know if it's really any different than regular parents worries for their kids," said father David Lamb. "We hope she has great friends and all the expectations of life to come."
By being here, Emma beat the most unlikely odds. No one is betting against her now.
"I see her as being a go-getter. She's very determined, an over achiever. She likes things perfect," said Elena. "And healthy. I see her being a healthy, beautiful, sweet girl."
