$100,000 bail for Wash. man accused in hitchhiker shooting

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - The Valley County attorney says bail has been increased to $100,000 for a Washington state man suspected of shooting and injuring a hitchhiker along a northern Montana highway.
Prosecutors allege 52-year-old Lloyd Christopher Danielson III of Tumwater, Wash., shot 39-year-old Ray Dolin Saturday along U.S. Highway 2 west of Glasgow.
Danielson was arrested in Roosevelt County, where bail was initially set at $50,000. Citing the violent nature of the offense, prosecutors requested the increased bail Wednesday after Danielson was returned to Valley County.
County Attorney Nick Murnion says a public defender likely will be appointed for Danielson.
Dolin, who is from Julian, W.Va., told authorities he was hitchhiking cross-country and was shot in the arm after approaching Danielson's vehicle thinking the suspect was offering him a ride.
