Bellevue bomb squad investigating suspicious device in bank lot

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- A Bellevue bank has been evacuated and a bomb squad called in after witnesses saw a man toss what's being called a suspicious device out of his car window near the bank.

Police got a 911 call at around 4 p.m. after someone saw man drive a green Toyota Camry into the parking lot at Bellevue's Federal Bank.

"(Witnesses saw) a small, cylinder pipe and a white male through it out the window of his car. He drove through he parking lot and then drove away, so that in itself is kind of suspicious," said Carla Iafrate with the Bellevue Police Department.

The bank was evacuated and a bomb squad arrived on scene to examine the device using a robot. Nearby Bellevue Square has not been evacuated.

Traffic has been shut down on NE 8th Street between 100th and 102nd Avenues NE.

Just before 7 p.m., the Bellevue Police Department determined the device was not a bomb.
