Bellingham boy, 12, treated for alcohol poisoning
BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) - A 12-year-old boy who was found passed out near a Bellingham skate park was treated for alcohol poisoning.
A passer-by spotted the unconscious boy Wednesday in the back of a parked pickup truck.
The Bellingham Herald reports medics took him to St. Joseph Hospital. He was transferred to Seattle Children's Hospital because of its specialized intensive care unit.
Police think the boy's friends left him in the pickup after he passed out, hoping someone would help him. The trunk owner didn't know the boy and had nothing to do with his drinking.

Wow, with friends like these. Better learn a lesson there. BTW, I'm guessing KOMO meant to say "truck" owner and not "trunk" owner.
I was 11 the first time I got buzzed; Michelobe Dry, back in December 1988. 12 years old and alcohol poisoning, damn.
Hope this kid recovers quickly, learns his lesson and finds better friends.Â
Nice friends!
This would never happen with marijuana, yet alcohol is legal & marijuana is not. Go figure. Overdose of pot = best nap ever. Overdose of alcohol = possible death.
@Shelly HE IS TWELVE YEARS OLD. Totaly inappropriate to peddle the legalization of pot here.
@Shelly True, but the paranoia it would induce is incredible. Ive had it happen years ago, and swore I would never smoke weed again (I eventually stopped altogether)
 @Shelly overdose of pot = pukey pukerson spinfest....then nap
 @Shelly WORD!!!!! :)
 @Shelly You have a point about pot alone, however a large number of pot smokers also consume alcohol and other drugs.  You don't know what else other than alcohol was in this boys system and it could very well have been pot.
@keri555
That still doesn't change a thing I said.  I was referring to pot and alcohol, not other drugs.. Not sure what your argument is.
 @keri555  @Shelly But you can also turn that coin over Shelly..... A LOT of alcoholics use other drugs too. As a matter of fact alcohol was the gateway to pot and cigarettes for me as with most of my friends growing up... NOT the other way around. Before you say anything just remember that alcohol lowers you inhibitions WAY more than weed which is why when you're drunk you get the balls to try "OTHER" stuff...... just saying.
 @Shelly Truer words are hard to find. Overdose of THC? Nah you fall asleep with no organ failure or damaging the neurons of your brain like alcohol.
Friends? Â Don't think so.
Funny how drinking makes you think your a big man. Then you turn into a coward and leave your friend to die by himself when he passes out.
Where are those absent fathers? They are not so slick and we all get to live with the fallout of their actions and irresponsibility. If it isn't that then its substance abuse by the adults in the home and how that impacts kids.Â
 @Citizen#3457899654 I'm a single DAD who's raised his daughter by HIMself since she was 11 months old. She's 8 now. People like you who throw around gender are annoying and narrow. We're doing just fine without "MOM".
 @Citizen#3457899654 don't see anything in this story about either parent of this child, so it seems you are making an assumption here.
@Citizen#3457899654 Unfortunately, my boys don't have a father in their lives, but they are turning into successful young men. My oldest is on the delayed entry program, and will enter the Marines in January. My youngest is well on his way to becoming an Eagle Scout and is successful in school. I hate it when people assume that because a father isn't around, the kids will be trouble. Not all kids are like that. I work hard to put a roof over their heads and to give them a good upbringing, and comments like that are a slap in the face to me. As if a mother can't raise good kids without a dad around...
@traceywo Thank you Tracywo and congrats on your boys success.
You're to be commended, Tracey. It is a lot harder without a father, but can be done by a conscientious parent. Not everyone is able to keep focused on their kids' wellbeing as you are.
Pot may not seem as bad, but it does interfere with adolescent brain development, if we want kids living in the basement playing video games at 35, keep pushing the pot.
 @Citizen#3457899654 Absent fathers and broken homes are a huge part of the decline of American society.
 @keri555 Absent "parent"
 @Citizen#3457899654 <del>fathers</del> parents
 @Citizen#3457899654 Yep everytime a kid goes bad its because of the absent father ....-.-
@SODOSonicsNow @Citizen#3457899654 But he has a point, Where are this boys parents?
Well, almost every time anyway.
