CLE ELUM, Wash. -- Controversy over a utility bill could leave Suncadia Resort without running water.

The city of Cle Elum supplies the water for Suncadia resort just a few miles away. But according to an article published in the city's newspaper The Daily Record, the city administrator is ready to shut off Suncadia's water because the place is allegedly tens of thousands of dollars behind paying its utility bill.

"They've gotta pay their bills. That's what we expect the little guy on Third Street to do," the administrator told the Record. "Suncadia's got an obligation to pay their bills, or we're going to shut it down."

Suncadia is hurting economically. Slow business just forced the lodge and private residential community to temporarily layoff about 150 employees.

But staff members say the whole issue with the water bill is overblown. They say their understanding is the bill's been paid and Suncadia is working with the city to figure everything out.

Suncadia didn't want to comment, only saying it was a sensitive issue. Cle Elum city officials also didn't want to comment.
