Bill would tell stores how to handle dropped pot

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Lawmakers in Olympia are considering an oddly specific proposal about marijuana.
A bill introduced by Democratic Rep. Christopher Hurst of Enumclaw and Republican Rep. Terry Nealey of Dayton would set out steps for the "proper disposal of legal amounts of marijuana inadvertently left at retail stores holding a pharmacy license."
Nealey says the bill was prompted by recent incidents were marijuana was found at Walmart stores, after it was apparently dropped. He says there's some concern that having marijuana on the premises could affect the licensing of the pharmacies at such stores.
Washington voters legalized possession of up to an ounce of marijuana last fall.
The bill says that if less than an ounce of pot is found at a store with a pharmacy, the store must notify law enforcement, and the marijuana must be properly disposed of.
Nealey says the stores should follow the same steps if the marijuana is left there intentionally, or if it's more than an ounce of pot.

Liberals have to feel good too.
It's just another feel good laws for the liberal mindset..
Instead of a bill/law, they should form a task force that will use every resource available to locate and return the "dropped pot" back to its rightful owner. I'm sure the owner would really appreciate it.
@robmo your joking right???????
 @Dhnr  @robmo I'm joking but I don't think my idea is any more ridiculous than this bill.
So do we have bills for dropped alcohol and dropped prescription pills??? Â This is getting way out of hand, all of these new bill ideas for pot. I wonder if they're going to have to call in a hazmat team and shut down the store while they're disposing of the "Dangerous" dropped pot??
 @Seahawker Well, the hazmat team would be "disposing" of the pot over in the chips aisle while the store is closed.
I see a future where there are so many laws in the books that it will have to be a required K-12 class just to learn half of them. Maybe that should be a law too?
Let's just make it to where everyone starts out life in jail and you only get released once you've learned all of the laws.
Lol like anybody would dispose of it. Smoke it or sell it
Hmmm... I suspect this article does not properly explain the situation or need for the law. Although Christopher Hurst is a Democrat and I vote almost exclusively Republican, I have voted for him and respect his character and judgement.
 @justathought Either way our govt---led by BOTH parties---have lost their way and focus. Time to send them over their fiscal cliff and start all over.
Only Walmart customers who accidentally drop their stash on the floor.
Â
You probably don't have to many Nordstrom customer holding and dropping it on the floor.
 @Howard BealeÂ
How many Nordstrom stores have pharmacies?
@Opus8no5 funny, Walgreens wasn't called out as having this problem
   @Opus8no5 Walgreens has smarter employees than WalMart!
Just flush it. Why do politicians think that making more laws is the way to go? Why not cut back on government?
 @Magic 8 Ball I'm sorry but if I found it, no one but me would know about it. It would be legal for me to have it.
Fire both of them, or have a recall or whatever we do with politicians that have proven themselves incompetent.
Why did you guys think government was willing to legalize pot in the first place? Because they actually care about a few dope heads not getting busted? or maybe its because by legalizing it they could turn it into endless red tape with millions of tax dollars attached?   Â
Another PR stunt orchestrated by Walmart.
Next up - the state legislature presents an RCW dictating what a farmer must do if he spots particular types of mushrooms growing on cow patties in his field.
What ever happened to "return to sender" ?
Do tell Bill? Who the hell cares .
Â
Â
Not a problem, just give me a call & I'll come & dispose of it for free.
"...marijuana must be properly disposed of..."
Â
What they left out was the meaning ..."rolled up proportionately in zig-zags and incinerated slowly by the lawmakers" Â ;)
Â
They've run out of things to do in Olympia???
This makes absolutey no sense whatsoever! Â All the stores with pharmacies are liquor stores now too. Â Liquor is much more dangerous and addictive than weed, so what's up with the concern over this issue? Â
 @Tooby Roosday Feds.
Dang, the comedy just writes itself these days...
It's almost time for the KOMO problem solvers to purposely enter stores with pharmacy licenses and 'drop' a baggy of weed on the ground to see if the proper steps were followed. I'm am willing to wager a couple of bucks that the baggy never sees the 'lost and found' department at any store they put to the test.
@Rockberry Ken Schram was born for this job! KOMO bring him back!
@Rockberry I bet it never makes it to being dropped.
An excellent example that both Democrats and Republicans have class A, #1 morons amongst them. The rest are running a close second. If this "problem" requires a law, any store with a pharmacy must be a good place to get some free stuff, it's just lying here and there on the floor. Remember those names, Christopher Hurst and Terry Nealey. Anyone voting for them is guilty of being incredibly stupid. I once lived in Enumclaw, has it really gotten that bad there? Amazing how much a place can deteriorate in 50 years. I guess Dayton is in a part of the state where one might expect something like this.
 @uscit16791949 One  time I was in a WalMart, and I found $50 on the floor and I was like "Awwwww yeaaaaah!" And then I was like, "What are the folks in Olympia gonna think? I'm gonna go vote right now! Wait, I don't even know the name or GENDER of any of those folks. Awwwww yeaaaaah!"
Oh crap. An apple fell off my tree. Call the hazmat team !!! Watch out...it could self ferment into alcohol. Million dollar cleanup...news at 11.
they are making this legalization waaaaaay more difficult/complicated than needed.....the permit fees are outrageous also - $1000 annual fee for growing? its a plant for crying out loud.
Â
all this is why I voted "no thanks keep your gov't hands out of my herb".
Does this mean I can look forward to having to navigate around yellow police tape cordoning off a bit of marijuana on the floor at my local Wal-Mart while the police collect it for proper disposal? Â This bill sounds like the idiotic minutiae Soviet bureaucrats dreamed up to justify their existence. Â
Hope they mention bending the knees first when bending over to pick-up the pot, got to watch those back injuries Olympia lawmakers...
 @Windowseat What if one of those "People of Wal-Mart" bent over to pick it up without bending their knees?
A couple more laws and bills......just what we need.....and here I thought the govt started a "commonsense.org" website.....
Seriously? The pot doesn't come in some sort of container?
40 years ago it came in baggies. What do they do, dump it in yer hand???
Â
Both of these idiots need to be recalled!
Â
Our state is billions in debt, and they dream up this hallucination?
Â
What a waste of time for everyone concerned. Including anyone who has taken the time read this story.
Do you suppose Bill read it?
Â
@Phatharrius Knowing what the folks in Olympia are working on is never a waste of time. How else are we going to know how they're wasting our money?
 @commonsense  @Phatharrius They seriously put out this article just because they knew people would make funny comments about it..
@nwsportstilidie @Phatharrius Sure, but the scary part is they really are wasting time and money on this type of thing! Just the thought of it gets me so worked up I need to go start checking the floors at WalMart. The least they could do is give us a list of all the places where found weed is a problem.
Pizzing away my tax dollars is not my concern?
@bobalouie Just inhale a little bit deeper and exhale slowly, you'll feel better.
@bobalouie
I was surmising that you seem rather aggravated, over some asinine or minor things. Â Take a slow deep breath or inhale deeply was an inference to relax a little bit; you'll live longer, Ciao.
Not sure what yer refering to. I don't smoke pot and wasting my taxes is a crime.
