BLACK DIAMOND, Wash. -- Search and rescue crews on the Green River have found a body believed to be a 22-year-old Kent woman who fell into the water on Thursday.

Sharmaigne Lumauig
Deputies first responded to a report of a woman in the river near Black Diamond just after 7 p.m., according to King County sheriff's spokeswoman Cindi West.

Family members identified the woman Friday as Sharmaigne Lumauig and say she was hiking with her brother, cousin, and two coworkers when Lumauig fell in. Her cousin tried to save her, but he too fell into the river and she slipped away.

The cousin was found and rescued a short time later. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of mild hypothermia.

Search crews spent much of Thursday night and Friday looking for Lumauig until a body was found just after 1 p.m.

Lumauig moved to Kent from the Philippines about a year ago and was working on getting her nursing certificate, family members said.
