CRESWELL, Ore. - A Washington state man rammed a school bus to force it to stop on Interstate 5 in Lane County then took off his pants and tried to climb on board while armed with a gun, Oregon State Police say.

There were no children on the bus at the time Tuesday afternoon and the driver kept the door closed, preventing the man from gaining access.

As troopers and deputies arrived, the man got back in his car and tried to drive away with two flat tires, sideswiping another vehicle along the way. He later drove off the road, plowed through a fence and crashed into a pond.

Troopers arrested the man, later identified as Jonathan Modesitt, 38, of Bothell. He was jailed on a list of charges that include drunken driving, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, hit-and-run, attempting to elude, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and being felon in possession of a firearm. Additional charges may be pending, police said.

A firearm was recovered at the scene.

Troopers are still trying to figure out why he was ramming the bus.
