Sheriff: Boy accidentally hangs self on zip line
SEATTLE (AP) - A 12-year-old boy died Wednesday when he accidentally hanged himself on a zip line at his home near Redmond, a sheriff's spokeswoman said.
The sheriff's office identified the boy as Jackson Roos.
Roos' mother thought he was riding his bike around their home when she went to look for him. She found him hanging from the zip line, said King County sheriff's spokeswoman Cindi West.
First responders attempted to revive Roos but he was pronounced dead at the scene, West said.
Investigators were examining how the boy got caught and on what, she said. They will look to see if his helmet's chin strap or the harness on the zip line played a role.
"We're not sure what he caught got on," West said. "At this point, it does appear to be an accident."
She said the zip line on the home's vast grounds in unincorporated King County is about 20 to 25 feet from the ground and about 100 feet long. It was professionally installed.
The zip line was removed from the home by detectives for the investigation.

RIP, horrible accident, I pray for the family.
I will never understand fully the way this life works.
Â
It's probably a good thing.
Â
How can someone as innocent as this child be taken at such a young age. Â
Â
Life is not fair and this type of story hopefully gives some an appreciation for life. Â
Â
I cannot in my darkest darkest thoughts know the pain his family is going through. Â I pray for you and may he rest peacefully where he lays

Â
Take this lesson to heart: Its ok to take risks, but always check the equipment you are using. Know how it is supposed to work and know what to do if it appears to be malfunctioning.
@Tyler Smith I am so very sorry  for your loss.

I doubt the family cares about the grammar police. Their child is just as dead either way.
I am so so sorry to hear of the tragedy .. his mother..oh how it hurt her so deeply and the rest of the family. Feeling her pain. My prayers are with them
Â

Dear neighbors, we live up the street from you in The Woodlands, this afternoon I saw the chopper and I knew it wasn't good. We have a 12 year old grand son, our heartfelt prayers are with you all right now.Â
RIP young child. Deepest condolences to his family.
Â
For those of you on here blaming the family for this and that .. it is time to STOP doing that and realize that they are in deep pain right now...and may or may not ever fully recover from loosing a child from a tragic ACCIDENT!
@My opinion is Those fools blaming the parents are just plain stupid. Consider the source and move on, those idiots are not worth the time.
@mustang sally  @My Indeed...they are useless trolls who feed on the pain of others,
Let them starve.
Thoughts and prayers to friends and family.
Jackson R.I.P )': Everyone will miss you so much<3 I didnt know you well but started crying when i saw this. prayers go out to family<3
Ah, the parents probably wanted to put up something fun for their family and it's just a freak accident. What a terrible way to die - so sad. RIP young fella.
What a tragic accident. Sympathy to the family and friends of this little guy.Â
If I was a 12 year old boy with a bike and a zip line, I would try to go down the zipline, while holding the bike, then drop onto the ground and ride away at the end.
 @SkaBob Guilty as charged.
Deepest sympathies to family and friends...a tragic accident.
This appears to be another senseless case of child endangerment. Why would a parent string up such a dangerous apparatus in their backyard?
@Harrison I'm sorry, but if you consider a zip line child endangerment, then I suspect you have some very bored children that I suspect will eventually get themselves into real danger that is well out of your or their control.
@Harrison You, sir, are a presumptuous and pompous piece of poo.
@Harrison How dare you even suggest this. How dare you say anything so heartless about this innocent boy who I know and whose family is devastated. How dare you.
Â
This is a beautiful family who needs love and support right now.Â
The zipline was professionally installed.  Perhaps, the parents should have been there, but for those of us who have kids and once were kids, we know that parents cannot be there 100% to supervise their children. Perhaps, he was not supposed to be on the zip line without supervision and did not listen...hmmm, I can count many times I did not obey my parents rules.Seriously, Harrison, this IS not the place to post your idiotic personal opinions.  I have a treehouse with a tire swing and a rope swing in my backyard...oh, wait, I also have a pool.  Seems to me you think kids should not be allowed to have fun.  Parents install these types of things for their kids to play on and have a good time because we can't trust the perverts of America to not kidnap, molest, and kill our children if we let them go to the park!My thoughts and prayers and condolences to this young man's family. I can only imagine what they must be going through tonight.  I will also say a prayer for Harrison that he might find sympathy for those around him.Â
@Nichole M. I totally agree - it's not like this was strung up by just anyone - it was PROFESSIONALLY installed - I'm sure there safety features, they followed some sort of installment procedures etc.  I'd love a zipline in my backyard!  Accidents happen though, no matter how safe we are - the parents shouldn't be blamed.  Just very very sad.  My heart breaks for his family and friends.  No parent should ever have to bury a child. Â
@Harrison Really? So you conducted your own investigation and determined that was the cause? And I assume you're also Mr. Clean on everything? Yeah, I didn't think so. So take your arrogance somewhere else!
@Harrison Letting kids live and play is child endangerment. They can get killed in a million different ways. On bicycles, trampolines, swimming pools, walking to the bus stop, you name it. To the parents of Jackson: please do not listen to people like Harrison. You did nothing wrong - the opposite, he looks like genuinely happy and self confident child. Being a parent of two young children myself, I always cringe when hearing tragedies like this. A reminder how fragile our happiness is.  My deepest sympathies.Â
@Harrison You are an idiot and a perfect one at that......crawl back into your hole to never be seen again. People like you are disgusting!
@Harrison It's no different than having a close line-is that child endangerment too? Don't blame the parents....
@Harrison No different than having a close line-is that child endangerment too?
@Harrison Yea..everyone knows that toddlers should be kept safely in their playpens until they are 18.
@Harrison When I was younger my friends how had a zip line. It was just something fun to have. Everyone loved it.Â
@Harrison Do you live with tin foil and 1oo dead bolts on all your doors? Seriously!
@Harrison Let see for fun maybe? This is in no way child endangerment- the parents had no idea something like this would happen.Â
