Boy, 5, injured by gunfire in Portland gang shooting
PORTLAND, Ore. – Police say a 5-year-old boy was hit by gunfire in a gang-related shooting Tuesday night in Southeast Portland.

They said officers responded to a shooting at the Laurel Place Apartments in the 12500 Block of Southeast Powell Boulevard at about 8:51 p.m. and found that a young child had been shot.

A police spokesperson told KATU-TV News the boy was shot in the leg, and he is expected to survive. Investigators do not believe the child was the intended target. Officers noticed several rounds struck apartments nearby.

The police Gang Enforcement Team is looking for a suspect and asking for witnesses to come forward.

The Oregonian reports there was a fatal shooting last November at the Laurel Place Apartments. A woman was found dead on a stairwell. Two men were accused of shooting her because she had been dating one man's girlfriend.
