Budget deadline would cut 1,000 Hanford workers

RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) - A report from Democrats in Congress says more than 1,000 Hanford workers would be placed on unpaid leave for about six weeks if automatic federal budget cuts take effect March 1.
The Tri-City Herald reports environmental and cleanup work on the nuclear reservation would be suspended or delayed.
The Energy Department has released little information about the effect of the budget cut known as sequestration. The report came from Democrats on the House Appropriations Committee.
Hanford has a total of close to 9,000 workers.

GOP? Blame Obama for spending on every welfare program out there. Rather cut Military than the basis for his votes.Â
@Chawkfreak Grumpy Republican hater
The GOP would shoot their own Mother if they thought it would help them Politically.
What about 150 million that new gov Inslee was going to use for new job growth, Maybe he should use it to keep Hanford opened. He's and East side guy. New jobs old jobs What Difference Does It Make > It still state money
Looks like sequestration is going to happen and thats good. Congress just doesn't have the fortitude to start making the cuts that need to be made. And certainly not in the military. The sequestration is actually pretty minor cuts when you look at the big picture. After 12 years of horrible bills being passed I hope for gridlock in congress.Â
How do budget cuts affect us in our own country first.  You would think the first thing to go would be foreign aid and our operations outside of our country.  Face it our 2 party system has failed its people.
@APenny4MyThoughts Technically the sequestration is supposed to cut funding equally across all departments of the federal government. So while I can't be sure, I would bet that foreign aid budget will see the cuts as well.Â
