Call Superman? Daily Planet robbed

SEATTLE -- With Superman apparently busy getting ready for Emerald City Comicon, a masked man robbed The Daily Planet last week in Seattle.

No, we're not talking about the famed Metropolis newspaper but the slightly less famous antiques and collectibles shop in the 6000 block of Phinney Avenue North.

Owner Mr. Friend left The Daily Planet shortly before 4:30 p.m. last Tuesday to grab some food next door, unfortunately forgetting the key in the lock after shutting the door.

According to the Seattle Police Department's report for the incident, Mr. Friend returned to the shop to find the door locked and the key missing.

He used a spare key to get in and heard a rustling in the back of the shop, prompting him to grab a BB gun and call 911.

While Mr. Friend was on the phone, a masked man came running at him from the back of the store, according to the report.

He threatened to shoot the man, hoping he wouldn't notice the gun was fake, but the man kept coming, according to the report.

According to the report, the man swung a club-like object at Mr, Friend and knocked him into a display case, shattering it and breaking a number of items inside.

The man ran off, and officers were unable to find him.

Mr. Friend was unable to say exactly what was taken or broken during the robbery but estimated the damage at $1,000.
