SEATTLE -- Capitol Hill has had enough.
The group Social Outreach Seattle met with Seattle police Thursday afternoon to demand more attention to the jump in violent crime on Capitol Hill.
Spokesperson Shaun Knittel said there have been 16 assaults and 27 burglaries in a month.
"The reason why we call ourselves a community is because we really are. We're close, and when something like this happens, you feel it," he said.
He wants more awareness for the growing violence.
"The crime has to do with guns and knives, and people are just being attacked," Knittel said.
There was a break-in at a coffee shop and community center. Computers and money were taken on Christmas.
Knittel said victims need to speak up and file police reports to get more attention from police. He said police plan to step up efforts and increase patrols.

What? Â Having more armed police in the area is considered a response to increased crime? Are they suggesting that cops with guns can curb crime and capture criminals? Â I thought we were trying to ban firearms as they are the cause of the crime? Â Now I'm just confused. Â
No....people should take the streets back an ask the NRA for more Attack Rifles !!!!
@scychan Yeah, those vicious attack rifles will do it!  Just let them off the leash and let them roam the streets without any handlers!
Heavier police presence? It's almost impossible not to have a cop car in sight when in capitol hill as it is. Should the SPD just place a cop at every intersection and mid-block? seems the NUMBER of police isn't the problem...
What is the cause behind the recent escalation of crimes in Capitol Hill?
@UtterReality Capitol Hill is much tamer than it was years ago. It's the community not the Seattle Police Department that effects change. Poll the East Pct and you will learn that greater than 50% of sworn personnel live outside the City of Seattle. Cops are just around as hired help without an investment in the community other than a paycheck. The community is the catalyst to create change to enhance the safety of neighbors, businesses, visitors and every man woman and child on CH.
@UtterReality I wish someone would try to provide an answer for that. Maybe Bruce Harrell will  force businesses to hire them if his stupid idea is voted in and then the crime will be concentrated in specific shops instead of neighborhoods.Â
Make Peter Holmes and the city council enforce the ordinances where those who habitually cause trouble be trespassed from areas of the city. The thug huggers will hate it but people have a right to safety.Â
