Charge: Baseball coach 'repeatedly raped' boy, made child porn
SEATTLE -- A Maple Valley youth baseball coach already accused of buying child pornography is now alleged to have repeatedly raped a boy on camera.
Following on federal action against David Scott Engle, King County prosecutors now contend the 49-year-old attorney raped the boy "countless" times over six years. Investigators contend Engle recorded himself raping the struggling boy.
Agents with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and other agencies arrested Engle early this month after tracing an online purchase of child pornography to his home, according to charging documents. Investigators searched Engle's home and claim to have recovered photos and video that further implicates him.
Before his Nov. 6 arrest, Engle had been extensively involved in youth baseball. He coached a Select Bronco team of 11- and 12-year olds, was president of Maple Valley Pony Baseball and Fast Pitch, and served on two regional baseball organizations and one business.
Facing child pornography production and possession charges in U.S. District Court, Engle has now been charged by King County prosecutors with three counts of child rape.
Writing the court, Senior Deputy Prosecutor Cecelia Gregson asserted Engle went to great lengths to have contact with children while amassing a large collection of child pornography.
"The state has overwhelming evidence that the defendant committed countless acts of sexual assault upon his victim for years without detection," Gregson told the court.
The series of events that ended with Engle's arrest began with an international investigation of a website dealing in "naturist films" - a euphemism for child pornography.
Postal inspectors in the United States conducted a series of undercover purchases from the website. Law enforcement working overseas then raided the business, seizing a trove of child pornography and business records; agents in the U.S. also raided a shipping facility used by the business.
Since then, agents have been investigating the company's customers in an effort to track down those who bought child porn. Among the suspects identified thus far was Engle, who is alleged to have spent $2,300 on videos and photos sent to him by the company.
In charging documents, investigators noted the graphic nature of the pornography acquired by Engle from the website. Most showed nude, prepubescent boys being sexually assaulted.
Investigators raided Engle's Lake Lucerne-area home the day he was arrested, and recovered pornography well beyond what he bought online, federal prosecutors contend.
Engle's laptop contained about 11,000 suspicious images, according to charging documents, and additional DVDs and digital storage devices were recovered.
Engle was initially charged only with possession of child pornography. Since then, investigators claim to have uncovered photos and video of Engle raping one boy, which prompted the even more serious charges he now faces.
According to charging documents filed in King County Superior Court, investigators recovered photos that indicate Engle had been raping the boy for six years.
Engle took more than 1,400 photos and dozens of videos of himself and the child during the sexual assaults, King County Detective Marylisa Priebe-Olson told the court. During one, the detective said in court documents, Engle was seen raping the boy while watching a baseball game on television; the boy struggled against him and told him "no."
The sexual assaults continued for years without being detected and only stopped with Engle's arrest, Priebe-Olson told the court.
Engle remains in federal custody. He has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of making and receiving child pornography; he has not yet entered a plea to the three child rape charges he faces in state court.

Scum...no wait, scum is even too good to be associated with him. Lock 'em up and throw away the key!
Â
So disgusting...He was in a position with access to kids to boot!
Â
My only hope is that his future fellow prisoners, who could have children out there, treat this guy accordingly.
Sounds like a sexual sadist, thank god he was caught. Â They are basically sociopaths, they don't lighten up, and they don 't ever stop willingly. Â They can't even be reformed, it is best to keep a very close eye on them, preferably in prison.
Â
Â
Let him have the monkey killer from Idaho
"...raped the boy "countless" times over six years."
"Engle recorded himself raping the struggling boy."
"...charged by King County prosecutors with three counts of child rape."
"committed countless acts of sexual assault upon his victim"
"uncovered photos and video of Engle raping one boy"
"recovered photos that indicate Engle had been raping the boy"
"dozens of videos of himself and the child during the sexual assaults"
"The sexual assaults continued for years "
"he has not yet entered a plea to the three child rape charges"
Â
KOMO really drives the point home. I think once was enough for people to get the picture.
Â
@fumblefacedolt If you don't like it, don't read it.
1 photo is totally sufficient, 1400, I think I would start having nightmares after going through them. If it was my child, yes I would want a baseball bat, but if not, I would just want "it" to be removed from Earth. No point in prolonged violence because "it" would not learn. Â
Where's the basebal bat. Time for a little Sons of Anarchy.
Just lost my appetite. Gag gag gag.
I just couldn't read one more story of this type. I hope the boy will be ok. I hope the sick @!#! Goes to the fiery place.
@swansong68 If by fiery place, you mean very a large and public bonfire....I'm with you. Sometimes with cases like this I really like the idea of the victims determining the sentence...
@Susabelle  @swansong68 I suspect most victims would not be as cruel to their attackers as their attackers were to them.
@Jill  @Susabelle  @swansong68 That is how prison should be in general.
Would save a lot of money, requiring much less staff, if they were locked up 24/7, with food dropped down from the ceiling so they can't throw their disgusting and dangerous fermented feces and urine concoctions at the ones delivering their food each day.Â
If they're never getting out free, which nobody should be who commits such atrocities, no worries about them coming out worse than they were when they went in.Â
@Susabelle@swansong68
But the victim may not agree that the punishment should resemble the crime. Some would, but most wouldn't want to reenact such a horrible part of their lives.
Â
For example, in a case like this, were I the victim, instead I'd sentence him to a cell and cut off all communication with everyone. He'd get food, just enough calories to keep him alive, basic medical care, maybe some bedding, that's it. No TV, no books, no gyms, no interaction with others, no distractions.
Â
I'd give them all the time in the world to think about how little they have left as a result of poor impulse control and a disregard for the basic well being of children. No breaks, no family, no counselors, no anyone. Even most murderers care for their young, these people are worse human beings than most murderers.
@Jill  @swansong68 I suspect you are right. But there are times that when looking at such vicious and horrendous crimes.......I do wish the punishment really did fit the crime.
Ok, this is one sick perv!!!! Can you say life sentence? And throw away the key!
I'm not at all condoning what this guy did, provided he did it (He sounds pretty darn guilty). But just had to say that the bunch of comments about how people want to torture and disfigure this guy are nearly as disturbing as the crime.
@JustALurker Actually a simple bullet to the head would be enough. Then dumped in an unmarked grave. Some people simply do not need to exist.Â
@JustALurker No you are wrong there.  This man did something terrible to deserve the comments and even action on the comments.  The boy did nothing and this man is a preditor.  If people actually did kill these SOB's maybe there wouldn't be as many of them.  There is no sympathy for this and should not even be a demand for child pornography.  The fact that you and some people have the slightest bit of compasion or mercy for these preditors make it possible for this madness to continue.  It is wrong and it ruins children's lives.  Maybe he should rape you and tape it so he can re live it over and over, them maybe you would want him dead.  By the way provided he did it?  They have him on tape doing it.  I am not sure how much more evidence you need to prove he did what he did.
@JustALurker Do you have small children? any children? grandchildren?  the writers here are horrified of these crimes against a child. We may have ideas about justice for the man charged, but the difference is that the collective "we" are unlikely to carry out the deeds.Â

@deadcandance  @JustALurker Why would I imagine that? And sure, we have lots of animal instincts (whether this is one of them is up for debate) that doesn't mean it isn't disturbing to read about people acting on them. This guy looks to have done an act that is an example of the worst of humanity. It is our choice whether we let that bring out the worst in us as well.
@JustALurker  @deadcandance I am very upset this guy too, obviously a very sick person by all standards, or a non-person for that matter, but I agree, I sometimes shiver a little when the mob gets going. Mass anger is scary, especially if you study history.
It's stories like this that make me wonder how people can be anti-death penalty... Really? The last experience this guy should have is the feel of his intestines in his hands.
@Fugonn You see all the time the ones who are anti-death penalty, passionately yelling, "I wasn't for the death penalty until one of MY loved ones was victim to these scum! Now that I have been personally affected, you all need to jump right on board like I refused to do for you!"Â
Â
They seem to think that is somehow a stronger case for it than those of us who are willing to do the unpleasant task of punish the scum even if that particular POS didn't harm anyone we knew personally.Â
@Fugonn Do you want to volunteer for the job of torturing and killing criminals? Do you know what kind of person would you become? And the kind of society that ppl watching this kind of "justice" create? You don't need to guess, if you look into history and current societies around the world, you can easily spot that: the more cruel the punishments used in a society, the more violent the society is. You may like to live among Talibans if you like this kind of punishment, or perhaps not...
@Damian Depends on the criminal. This one? Sure. I didn't say we should put that kind of death on television; there doesn't need to be witnesses. What kind of society would give two squirts about this fleabag? He'll get to live and breath in jail, hopefully, forever, and that is better than he deserves.Â
Â
I suppose we just come from two different world views - I, for one, believe that a society that advocates abortion is not a society that truly values life, so it is a tangential position to be 1) pro-abortion AND 2) anti-capital punishment. I accept that my society is pro-abortion, but I reject the anti-capital punishment movement because it is illogical.
Â
I think capital punishment should be used to put down more than just murderers. What do serial child rapists add to society? The positive is dwarfed by the negative, so why keep them around? You may like to live with child rapists, or perhaps not...
Â
@Fugonn Rape in any form isn't punishable by death. However, for his crimes against children, when he finally gets into prison, he will be the low man on the totem pole. So low, that you may get what you wish for.
@yentaleh Just because it isn't punishable by death doesn't mean it shouldn't be. Homosexuals were not permitted to marry until the past election, but that didn't mean that it was a perfectly sensible idea that they should be permitted to do so. I long for a society that is able to eradicate itself of such loathsome sub-humans.
@Fugonn @yentaleh I agree with defending self and family and not having second thoughts. As per executions, I don't agree even in the case of guilty criminals, but sadly a lot of innocent people has been executed too, even in the US, that's quite of a risk too. I'd say throw them to jail and drop the key instead.
@Damian   @yentaleh Luckily, here, homosexuals are treated like adults who are making consentual life decisions that cause no harm to others. We certainly have diverging opinions about whether one can decide whether another lives or dies. IM(not so humble)O, if a person breaks into my house, I will have no problem making that decision for the criminal, and while I support a woman's right to chose abortion, I still believe it is a homicide. When I saw my first son's heartbeat, I changed my position from your viewpoint to my current viewpoint.
@Fugonn @yentaleh Interesting example, homosexuals are punished by death in some societies, even now in 21st century. My point is that no human being should be able to decide if somebody else lives or dies. As for your abortion comment in this thread, I don't think it's the same than killing a living human being.
It always makes me wonder why some people think they have to spend all this time with these kids and sports.Â
Something is wrong with them that neglect their family and spend too much time with kids.Â
Kill this POS. Where is the boy's parents?
@STK That's the sick thing, he probably preyed on a child who he knew the parents wouldn't suspect or were too busy to notice.  Sick.  Never leave your children alone with a over enthusiastic adult who is in a position to be around a lot of kids.
Its looking as though the boy hasnt come forward yet. Seems they just discovered him and this POS on video. I bet this is what is going on with their investigation right now. Sure hope they dont find any other young victims. If there are any more, this might be the time they start coming forward. This thing needs to die asap.
Lock him up with Jerry Sandusky. Both are vile perverts.
@Ned I thought that too, but they would probably like it, so never mind.Â
@WAREZ2012  @Ned Naw, they only enjoy it with unwilling, helpless victims. An adult consenting and enjoying is as big a turnoff to these scum as their disgusting acts are to the rest of us.Â
Kill it now!!!

No Mercy!!!
Oh wait... I forgot this is Warshington.
Â
@Jennieb, It depends on the round and how much you want the perp to suffer. Does that help?
how much is a bullet these days? or a second hand rusty machete?
 @jennieb You can always re-use a rope.
@Robinsnest  @jennieb Naw- he'd die too quickly that way.
@jennieb I have some rusty pruning shears you can have.Â
What is wrong with these people? If he can't be executed, at least neuter him.
This just makes me so ill.......
Please don't ever completely trust even the nicest coach! Don't let your kids go to their house alone. SO sad we live in a world where you can't do that! A few ruin it for all the great coaches who have a positive impact on a boy's and girls life.
@buggy Makes my blood boil even more this guy using the guise of baseball coach to gain access to these kids... he really ought to be put to death.
